Limerick Minors fall to Waterford goal-power

Munster Minor Shield Semi Final

Waterford proved too strong for Limerick Minors on a wet windy day in Fraher Field, Dungarvan. in the Munster Minor Shield Semi Final.

Waterford got off to a strong start with a goal from corner Forward Molly Curran in the opening minute of the game.  It was followed in the 8th minute when wing forward Beth Carton got her first point of the day followed by a goal from a rebound shot 5 minutes later to leave the score after 15 minutes Waterford 2-1 Limerick 0-0.

Limerick responded well and dominated the rest of the first half with 4 unanswered points. Full forward Marie Danagher got the first score for limerick from a placed ball, a second from play on 25 minutes and a third from a free. With a minute left in the first half corner forward Lizzie O’Dwyer reduced the gap further with a well taken point leaving  the score at half-time Waterford 2-1 Limerick 0-4.

Waterford started the second half like the first half with a goal within 5 minutes from Johanna Houlihan who blasted the sliotar past Orla Condon who hadn’t a hope of getting a block on it.  Limerick answered quickly with a point from substitute Caoimhe Lyons.  Limerick introduced three more subs Shannyn Sheehan, Sinead McNamara and Kate Mulqueen who replaced Aine Cunningham who was struggling with a hamstring injury.  Waterford punished Limerick again with 2 frees from Beth Carton who popped them straight over the bar.  With 16 minutes gone in the second half Waterford had a big lead 3-3 to 0-5.

Limerick again lifted their heads with 2 points from Kate Mulqueen and Maire Danagher and Waterford responded with a point from a placed ball.  2 minutes left in the game saw Aisling Scanlon get the last score of the game bringing the final score Waterford 3-4 to Limerick 0-8.  Waterford gor forward to play in the Minor ‘A’ Shield Final while Limerick prepare for the All Ireland Minor ‘A’ Championship semi-final on the 19th of April.
