Limerick lost out to Galway in their final game of the group stages of the Littlewoods Ireland Camogie League but having already qualified to the last four from Group 2 so there was little at stake in the final match apart from pride and it was the home side who prevailed. Limerick go on to face Cork in the semi-final next Sunday while Galway will face All-Ireland champions Kilkenny in the other. Manager John Tuohy fielded a much changed side as he looked to his options going into the later stages. Galway opened a lead early in the game and in truth never looked like being pegged back by a Limerick side over-reliant on Niamh Mulcahy for scores.
Galway took a five-point lead into the break and had extended that to nine two minutes into the second half after a goal from Linda Loughnane. Limerick were to close the gap with Dearbhla Egan and Rebecca Delee joining Niamh Mulcahy on the scoreboard but with Niamh Kilkenny impressive for the Tribeswomen they were left with a mountain to climb and Galway ran out deserving winners.
Limerick will have learnt a lot from this campaign and will be looking to cause an upset and go one step further than they have in the last two years and get to a first ever League Division 1 final.
Cork will prove to be tough opposition in the semi-final as the Rebels are unbeaten in the group stages but Limerick will take confidence from their two wins over the Leesiders in this competition last year.
