Granagh Ballingarry 1-14 Burgess Duharra 2-6

Munster Senior Camogie Semi-Final

Saturday 25th October in Ballingarry

Granagh Ballingarry won through to the Munster Senior Club Final with a 1-14 to 2-6 win over Tipperary champions Burgess Duharra on Saturday. The Final will be a repeat of last year’s clash as they will again face All-Ireland champions Milford of Cork who defeated Clare champions Kilmaley by 1-14 to 1-2 in the other semi-final.

On a showery day in Ballingarry the hosts had the better of the exchanges in the first half however an alert Burgess attack pounced on a blocked shot by the Granagh keeper Claire Enright to score the half’s only goal. This reduced Granagh’s lead at half-time to two points. Granagh Ballingarry 0-8 Burgess Duharra 1-3.

The second half continued to be a closely fought encounter with Jenny Grace particularly prominent for the visitors and Aoife Sheehan tireless for the home side. A Burgess Duharra goal early in the half, again converting a rebound from a blocked shot, put the Tipperary side ahead by one point.

The game remained finely balanced until entering the final quarter when, with Granagh leading by the minimum, Burgess Duharra’s Trisha O’Halloran was sent off for a second yellow card. This proved to be the turning point as shortly after Fiona Hickey won a ball in midfield and played and excellent pass into the corner where Mairead Fitzgerald, using her pace, got past her marker and played a ball across the face of the goal where an on-rushing Rebecca Noonan batted it into the back of the net.

The game’s final action saw Aoife Sheehan put a sideline cut over the bar which in Camogie is rewarded with two points. This was the first occasion most of the spectators had seen this and it was a fitting way to finish the game leaving the score at the final whistle Granagh Ballingarry 1-14 Burgess Duharra 2-6.

Granagh’s Munster Senior Final clash with Milford will be played on November 8th in Charleville at 2.30pm..
