The Green started the season in capital style by defeating Kings Langley 2 goals to nil. Seabrook winning the toss set his men an uphill task with the wind behind them. The Kings Langley forwards went off with a rush and five minutes after the start were awarded a corner, but this did not have the desired effect. The home forwards soon began to settle down and after a neat run M Webster scored the first goal for the Green. After the change of ends the visitors started a kick and a rush game, but Mayo and Windebank were not going to be caught napping. The homesters had by far the best of the game throughout the second half. King having extremely hard luck in not scoring a least two goals. Kings Langley were once dangerous during the second half, the forwards passing the Greenbacks and Britton shot, but Seabrook was between the uprights and placed the ball around the post. Shortly after this the homesters broke away, the left wing taking the ball almost to the corner flag, when M. Webster centred and Cleveland registered number 2. Thus the game ended. The Green forwards all worked well. The half backs were a trifle slow at the start, but, but improved greatly as the game went on. Mayo and Windebank were very safe at back. Seabrook still proves himself worthy as a goalkeeper.

Boxmoor Reserves
Away game the Green lost 6 - 4
The Reserves were at home to the Green for their fourth game of the league and scored their first win of the season. The game opened fast with Boxmoor facing the sun and they were soon attacking, but Seabrook was alert and kept his goal clear. The Green centre forward King was in form and cause the Reserves to act on the defence for a while. Boxmoor got going again and a good shot from the right entered the net, soon followed by a high shot in the top corner by Orchard. Play was more even now and a run up and a centre followed by a quick shot just inside the upright reduced the “Reds” score. After some pretty play on the wing by the brothers Webster, the Green obtained a second, the inside forward breasting through Half time 2 each. The second half saw the Reserves go straight for goal in ernest and they strove hard for the lead, which was not long incoming. Final doing the trick. The Green appealed for hands unsuccessfully. The “Reds” played the better football now and Odell whose pace was fine securing a rattling centre from Smith made the score 4 – 2 giving Seabrook no chance to save. Two off side goals were scored by the Reserves and were promptly disallowed. A foul close in looked dangerous for the “Reds” but the backs cleared, only to see Lea take a long shot which beat the Boxmoor keeper. The Green came near to equalising but the “Reds” added two more goals through Odell and Final. King netted a fourth for the Green and the game ended in a win of 6 – 4 for the Boxmoor Reserves

LEVERSTOCK GREEN & DISTRICT CUP COMPETITION October 1908
LEVERSTOCK GREEN V SARRATT
Green won 2-0.
Leverstock Green travelled to Sarratt in the first round of this new competition and the game resulted a win for the visitors by the narrow margin of one goal to nil. The Sarratt skipper won the toss and King started the ball rolling. The visitor’s forwards soon got to work and things got pretty warm for the first twenty minutes, but they could not scores. Shortly after the start a capital run down was made by M. Webster on the left wing and a nice centre resulted in Cleveland snooting over the cross bar. Rance was next to have a pot at goal but kicked by. The visitors certainly had very bad luck during the first half as they ought to have been at least four up when the whistle blow for half time. The only goal of the match was scored by F. Saunders who misjudged the ball and kicked through his own goal. During the first half there was only one team in it, the visitors practically having things their own way but could not find the net. The second half was much more even Sarrett having a fair share of the play but the Green defence proved far too strong and the homesters failed to equalise. Simmons, the Sarratt goalie played a splendid game and undoubtable saved his side from a much heavier defeat. The Green thus qualified for the second round of the competition.
