LEVERSTOCK GREEN v BEDMOND
The match was played on Saturday on the ground of the former.
The visitors arrived rather late, with three men short, but able substitutes were found.
The teams were: - Leverstock Green:
T. Williams goal,
H. Cooke and W. Homans, backs
C. H. Finch, J Bishop, and W. Leno half backs.
F. Doult, F. Lane, R. Tibbles, G. Howe and H. Leno. Forwards
Bedmond:
R. Ashby. Goal
T. Martindale and Dault backs.
Wright, Smith, and H Martindale half backs.
T. Wright, J. Doult, W. Ashby, Barber and Buckingham, forwards.
T. Martindale won the toss and elected to play with the wind. Leverstock green at once pressed and soon made matters warm for the visitors. The pressure was relieved by the ball being hit behind. From the free kick Lane received and sent in a good shot which scored. This woke up the visitors up a bit and they in turn attacked, but were stopped by the backs. The home forwards swarmed around the visitor’s goal again and Lane scored goal number two. Soon after Bedmonds other players put in an appearance, but the homesters kept up the pressure and in a tussle near goal T. Martingale was hurt and play had to be suspended. The second half was very evenly contested. Bedmond came up with a rush but could not score. The home forwards were soon down at the other goal, but the backs defended well. Bishop put in a splendid shot which ought to have scored, but the goal keeper saved at the expense of a corner, from which nothering tangible resulted. From the kick off the visitors forwards went off at a rare pace and White broke through the defence and only had the goal keeper to beat but Williams saved splendidly and returned to his forwards. A scrummage around the Bedmond goal resulted in Howe scoring number three and soon after the same player added the forth.
