b. How to make TV

Here I did some pictures during DIY TV building. This TV build, took me one afternoon including pictures making.

Controller I used is described here 5. LCD as PC VGA,HDMI,AV,TV multifunction display

Is good to read this subside d. 30 pin cable

And this subside 8. Backlight

I had old useless laptop brandt "clevo notebook" :) .

However laptop was broken, the screen was 17 inch 1440x900 , well I decide to made an monitor/TV to have it in garage or whatever location I like.

First of all screen bracket was separate and opened for future work.

Than, after LVDS cable was made and screen was tested, I was sure that picture is OK and screen is in very good condition.

That was done few days before.

Now is time to start building.

As first, must made some holes for cables, for PCB supports and for casing support.

Holes for cables simply drilled, nothing special, hand drill and some drills.

PCB supports are from old brass PC mainboards supports screwed to back cover,

and casing supports are cut from L alloy profile and mounted by rivets, those alloy L are drilled from backside for rivet, and drilled and M3 threaded for screw the cover. Let see if controller fits well, yes it is.

The webcam hole is ideal for IR receiver, some double stick tape done the rest.

At bottom I used small universal CCFL inverter described here 8. Backlight

Unfortunate I forgot to made picture but inverter is really small and fits in bracket very well.

Than is time to prepare stand mounting. It was cut from square 15x15mm alloy profile, than one screw at bottom and one rivet at upper side of alloy square.

To bottom of square part is also screwed U alloy profile 13cm long with two M2.5 screws each side, for this screws alloy square was threaded.

Finally TV stand looks like on picture.

As back cover, I used 1/4 of universal electronic casing bought in radio shack shop, so one half of casing was cut for two.

In every laptop are two speakers, so is good to use them. Laptop's speakers are very flat and small, so can not work outside because of no bass and fatal voice quality, they must be placed at bigger casing to get proper bass and treble and improve sound quality.

The most difficult problem to resolve, was how to cut holes for speakers, finally I used small milling machine and dentist cutter with old PC supply power casing with oblong holes template, this template was ideal to cut them in plastic casing.

Now is time to mount speakers, God bless hot glue inventor :) .

Now is the moment to made all parts together.

PCB is screwed and all cables connected, after check that all working, cover was closed and screwed with screw on each side.

I decided to not add a keyboard nor status LED, as I do not like any red or green points near of picture.

In this case IR remote have all functions and is more reliable in use.

If in future any needs for keyboard become, is very easy simply plug the keyboard plug in socket and screw or glue the keyboard to case.

Final look as below, not bad as for one afternoon TV :) .

Sound from this TV is surprisingly good and loud, basses are quite good for news or movies, that nice for such small speakers.

Picture quality is as in normal TV picture, analog TV depends from signal quality (usually good) , AV/HDMI/PC is excellent and very clear.

Will try to made a movie about idea of Overscan trimmings, if will be ready will link it here.
