Fridolin Becker, The Sick Child
Parents must keep their child(ren) home from School or Camp if they have any of the following symptoms to prevent other children from becoming sick:
• Fever within the past 24-36 hours (temperature over 100.4° Fahrenheit (F) or 38° Celsius (C) )
• Vomiting within the past 24-36 hours
• Coughing
• Excessive runny nose/sneezing
• Sore throat
• Diarrhea
• Draining rash or wound
• Eye discharge or pink eye
• Fatigue that prevents participation in regular activities
• Open wounds, unless properly covered
• Lice and scabies
Parents of children who come to the School or Camp sick or become ill during the day will be contacted to come and pick them up.
Before returning to the School or Camp, children must be free of fever and symptoms for at least 24 hours without the use of medication.
Children can be readmitted after medical diagnosis to rule out bacterial or viral infection or after 24 hours have passed since starting antibiotic treatment with a note from a medical practitioner.
Head Lice Policy
Head lice are an unfortunate but common part of school life. While they are more of a nuisance than a health risk, we understand how unwelcome they are. To help prevent the spread of lice, we kindly ask all parents to keep a watchful eye for signs, such as frequent scratching or the presence of nits (lice eggs) in their child’s hair.
If you do discover lice or nits, please inform Bolek and your child’s teachers. Open communication is key to keeping our classrooms healthy and lice-free.
La Petite Ecole has a “No Head Lice” Policy to ensure the well-being of our children. This means:
If a child has lice, they cannot attend school until the issue is fully treated. Should lice be discovered during the school day, parents will be contacted to pick up their child.
Additionally, all parents of the classmates of the affected child will be notified so they can monitor their own children (from the school and siblings) as a precaution.
Once a child has been treated, they may return to school after a staff inspection confirms they are lice-free and nits-free.
