A short (200 pages) novel with a fascinating concept. Jam (trans - but not a feature part of the story) lives in Lucille, a town in which a revolution has ended all injustice, evil, crime. All the 'monsters' are incarcerated and therefore Lucille is safe. Except, Jam accidentally unleases Pet from a painting by her mother Bitter. Pet is a creature from another dimension who is on the hunt for a 'monster' who is living in her best friend's house. This story is deliberately representative (eg. trans protagonists and a poly-relationship mentioned) but subtly so. It's got cracking pace and explores friendship, truth and relationships between adults and children.
