A very quick post to share a collection of (re)sources.
At an inset day in July 2023, one of the things I asked my staff was: "How has the world changed since 2018?" as we thought about what our refreshed vision and values should be. To stimulate this discussion, I had collected a variety of "think piece" articles and graphs.
The initial inspiration came from the @Inspiring Leadership Conference in Birmingham in June. We had sessions from Kelly Beaver (CEO of IPSOS,the massive survey company) and Sam Freedman (political and education Landscape pro - if you don't follow him, you must!) and they just made so much sense. It helped provide the national, global context to things we are all FEELING on a local level in schools. I found myself feeling informed and actually quite reassured: we aren't mad, things are tough, it's not just us and we're not necessarily doing anything 'wrong.'
Feedback from my staff about what they liked about the inset often focused on this part of the session:
*"Great discussion of the bigger issues surrounding education "
* "Thinking of the bigger issues nationally was very useful."
*" Engaging. Spoke about the bigger picture cultural issues which are contributing to some of the issues in school."
* "The importance of moving forward with the possible changing nature of some students was relevant, using current global situations to underpin the reasoning behind looking at change."
So, please see below for links and graphs from:
Kelly Beaver, Sam Freedman, Geoff Barton, Schools Week, TES, WE Forum, .gov.uk stats, TeacherTapp.
Hope it helps!
Here is a link to the original doc as (because much of it is photos) it might be too small to read.
