my Personal Learning Network
I am a connected educator and the internet has enabled me to find many helpful and inspirational contacts. I am part of a professional language network in Higher Education, currently serving as Vice Chair for external communications at UCML . I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Certified Member of ALT, the Association for Learning Technology. I am also a co-editor of the ALTC Blog and Co Chair of the Open Education SIG.
I qualified to teach in the 1980's and I was an early adopter of technology. Inspired by the work of Ernesto Macaro (in Warwickshire at the time) I used GRASS databases for oral teaching and my students used to enjoy Granville virtual town visits when CD-ROMs were in their infancy.
I now work in Higher Education and I was responsible for an online portal for telecollaboration to support the best language teaching experiences for our Institution wide language programme, Languages@Warwick. The rationale for this project was described in this publication.
During this period I have extended my teaching life into the virtual through Second Life, virtual classrooms and research into voice over the internet. I used to chair the Eurocall Computer-Mediated Communication special interest group and I am on the executive committee of EuroCALL. I am also part of the Unicollaboration team.
I have an extensive Personal Learning Network, here's an old snapshot of some of my faves and a more recent update.
I tweet professionally as @warwicklanguage and was awarded a golden tweet award for my work with #LTHEchat.
I am proud to be featured on these lists for my online work:
