How I apply this standard in my teaching

I think it is extremely important to understand how to use technology effectively and responsibly in order to teach students the immense possibilities of technology. As some of my ESL students are more skilled than I do in certain forms of technology, it is necessary that I stay abreast of current applications, as well as teach students to use innovative technology. For example, students spend hours browsing through websites or searching videos on Youtube, only to be entertained in a mundane and purposeless fashion. The use of websites and videos should be creative, content and age appropriate, and educational. I find it important to show students that the power of internet is to facilitate the process of gathering needed information and provide the maximum efficacy in learning.

Due to the rapid development and use of technology, the system of hard copies of portfolios has become more obsolete. My students use Google Sites and PB Works to create e-portfolios and share their research projects and knowledge on a specific subject matter. I also teach students to use Google Slides and Google Docs for their e-portfolios. Google Slides provides many templates for life at no cost and students can incorporate wikis, blogs, calendars, and other interactive tools. In order to better implement a web-based portfolio system, I determine the mandatory components including the requirements for technology and objectives of learning. I provide guidelines and rubrics for students that describe the portfolio process and the evaluation procedures. The use of e-portfolios is a great way that allows teachers to demonstrate fluency in technology systems and students to advance their technology skills and construct content knowledge.
