History: The first mass was said in what was then "Stallotown" in 1832. The Stallotown Mission was established in 1834 and in 1836 St. Augustine Parish was formally established. In 1845, Father Francis de Sales Brunner and the Society of the Precious Blood was asked to take charge of this Parish. The Society is still in charge of the parish today.

A large brick church was begun on the site of the present church in 1845 and dedicated on November 11, 1849. That church building, with one tower, faced east - the opposite direction of the present church. In 1874, the one tower was removed and twin towers were erected on the west side. The church nave then faced the opposite direction. The church has been renovated three times, the latest in 1963, but the main body of the church is still the 1849 building.
