Pilgrim Prayer
Codex Calixtinus – 12th Century
God, you called your servant Abraham from Ur in Chaldea, watching over him in all his wanderings, and guided the Hebrew people as they crossed the desert. Guard these your children who, for love of your Name make a pilgrimage ... Be their companion on the way, their guide at the crossroads, their strength in weariness, their defense in dangers, their shelter on the path, their shade in the heat, their light in darkness, their comfort in discouragement, and the firmness of their intentions: that through your guidance, they may arrive safely at the end of their journey and, enriched with grace and virtue, may return to their homes filled with salutary and lasting joy.
Spirit of the Way
Prayer at the CrossLord, may this stone, a symbol of my efforts and faith on the pilgrimage that I lay at the foot of the cross of the Savior, one day weigh the balance in favor of my good deeds when my faith and the deeds of my life are judged. Let it be so.
Prayer before setting out on a pilgrimage
God of the guiding star, the bush that blazes
show us your way
God of the stormy seas, the bread that nourishes
teach us your truth
God of the still, small voice, the wind that blows where it chooses
fill us with life
God of the elements, of our inward and outward journeys
set our feet on your road today.
May god bless us with a safe journey
may the angels and saints travel with us
may we live this day in justice and joy.
Amen.
A Prayer for Cyclists
In a world groaning under the excesses of consumption, we acknowledge the goodness of human powered transportation and give thanks for the simple beauty of the bicycle.
In a community filled with children, we pray for those learning to ride. Keep them smart, safe, and visible on their neighborhood roads.
In a world of work, we pray for those who build, repair, and clean our bikes and those who rely on bicycles to earn their living.
In a community of beautiful diversity, we ask your protection and blessing on all who ride and all the others who take to the streets and trails of our community. Amen.
A Prayer for Cyclists 2
Dear God in Heaven;
Thank You for this day,
Thank You for this bike,
And thank You for this chance to ride.
Please give me the strength to ride fast and the stamina to ride far,
Please shield me from danger and bring me safely home at ride's end.
May my spinning wheels sing a song of praise to Your Glory,
And may each turn of my pedals be an act of thanksgiving to You
for the blessings of this day.
My dear Lord Jesus, may Our ride together go on forever, world without end.
Amen!
