I just finished the second constant-effort ringing session at the new site, which was held simultaneously with a ringing demonstration to the students of the Faunistik course from Lund University. As expected, the number and diversity of birds increased (see Results webpage), and included my first Icterine Warbler of the year. There was a Thrush Nightingale singing next to the mist nets, but unfortunately it was not caught (perhaps next time!).
Otherwise, got some really nice observations of an Osprey (Pandion haliaetus) preening on a perch very close to the bird tower, and there were still some White-winged Terns (Chlidonias leucopterus), but much fewer than those seen on previous days. Quite a lot of dragonflies and damselflies are now on-the-wing, including many Coenagrion pulchelum, Pyrrhosoma nymphula, Calopteryx splendens, Cordulea aenea, Brachytron pratense and others.
More news soon!
