Today's session of the CES was the sixth, which means that half of the sessions of this project are now concluded for 2014. The number of birds caught was the highest so far: 44 captures and 7 retraps of 13 species. These included the first Marsh Tits (Entita, Parus palustris) of the year, one of which was not even ringed despite all the nest box work in the area! These were juveniles, as were five Reed Buntings, one Sedge Warbler, one Willow Warbler, the Song Thrush, one Dunnock, the Robin, as well as most Blackcaps, Chiffchaffs, Blue and Great Tits. Willow Warblers were already in primary moult, and so do the adult Blue Tits.
Turdus philomelus, juvenile
Once again, Arne and Pablo participated in this session, which was a great help, as I needed to take blood samples and smears from some of these birds (more about that at a latter stage). I will soon update this webpage regarding the people involved, with photographs and some information on their activities, interests and biographies as bird ringers. As always, results are described in the appropriate section.
Keep updated!
