Having landed from Portugal at 22:00 the previous night, it was not without some effort that this morning I opened the nets at 4:30 and carried out another session for the CES! The weather was lovely, with mild temperatures (13-23ºC), light wind and just a few clouds in the sky.
As expected for this time of the year, the session was quite busy having trapped 54 birds of 10 species. Almost half of these birds (25) were Chiffchaffs (Phylloscopus collybita), of which only one was an adult, and another 17 were Willow Warblers (P. trochilus), also mostly juveniles and a few adults (in moult). Other species included the first (finally!) Dunnock (Prunella modularis) of the year for the CES (also a juvenile), Song Thrush (Turdus philomelus), Lesser Whitethroat (Sylvia curruca), both adults, as well as Blue, Great and Marsh Tits, and a couple of Sedge Warblers (Acrocephalus schoenobaenus).
One of the many juvenile Chiffchaffs (P. collybita) caught today
It is time to rest now, and then enjoy Portugal beating Sweden in the U21 European final:-)! I have a divided home nowadays!
Till next time!
