Christmas Stockings

The pattern can be made using 4mm needles, and double knitting (worsted) weight yarn, which makes a stocking which is approximately 2 ½ inches high. Alternatively, by making the pattern using 4 ply yarn and 3.25mm needles, the stockings are approximately 1 ½ inches tall.

Basic Stocking Pattern

The stockings are made knitted from the toe to the cuff in one flat piece and are then sewn along the centre front.

Abbreviations:

M1 – Make one by lifting the loop between the two needles, and then knitting into the back of it.

w&t – wrap and turn – yarn forward, slip the next st, yarn back, slip the stitch back onto the left hand needle (thus “wrapping” the yarn around the stitch) and turn the work.
