Social Knowledge is shorthand for knowledge embedded in social networks. I am developing the website to get technology-shy business students interested in taking follow-on course in information systems. What better way to introduce them to the course than showing them real examples.
The course was going to be called "Knowledge Management in the Age of Social Networking" (see INFO 230 Syllabus). That title suits the suits as it has an academic flavor to it. But I kind of like social knowledge - meaningful and short which is great for a catalog. The name came about because a longer one would wrap on most of the Google Site templates I tried. So I've settled on social knowledge or social knowledge management to be a purist.
The website is part course-related and part latest trends in social knowledge management. The trends help advertise the course. I'm developing under Creative Commons License so if you do use any of the material please give attribution and plenty of links to my various pages I'm hoping to develop. I build these websites partly to test out search engine optimization (SEO) strategies. Getting a page to gain Google Page Rank is quite an effort - keeping it there is even more. So link away!
Enjoy your journey.
