The 2010 Crew and Coxswain Academy is set to begin 16 March 2010. Members who are interested in qualifying as a boat crewman or obtaining their Coxswain certification are highly encouraged to attend.
Each candidate will need have: ·
BQ qualification in AuxData. ·
Proper and complete ODU uniform ·
Current copy of the USCG Boat Crew Manual (COMDTINSTM16114.5C) ·
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) ·
Dry suit or Mustang ·
Commitment to attend all sessions
Classes will be held on Tuesday nights at US Coast Guard Sector Portland for several months. Later in the academy, candidates will participate in on-the-water training which is normally scheduled on Saturdays.
There will also be several night navigation sessions where candidates will plot a course up the Columbia and back again. The course will be run using time, speed and distance and compass navigation.
I will be posting a syllabus in the near future. Training dates will also be added to the Flotilla Calendar at that time.
Members interested in attending the academy must submit their request to the FSO-MT as soon as possible.
