Portfolio Reflection Questions:
- Choose one of the data sets listed above in the Activity section or one that you find on your own and give a brief description of it. What specifically were the types of data (text, sounds, transactions, etc.) included in the data set you chose?
- I looked at the data set that explores the amounts of student debt. Within this data set, it listed data regarding tuition costs for various colleges, the amount of student debt, and the graduation rate. These data points are text data.
- What new facts did you learn when exploring the data set? List at least 3 facts.
- After exploring this data set, I learned that student debt is higher for individuals attending private school, some colleges with very high tuition provide scholarships and financial aid which helps decrease the amount of financial aid, and that public colleges are more affordable.
- Write a question you have about the data set you chose. Now, convert that question into a hypothesis (a statement) with your prediction about the data.
- Why do students at private schools have more student debt if they provide more financial aid and scholarships? Students at private schools have more student debt even though they provide more financial aid and scholarships than public schools because the difference is still higher than if the students went to public schools due to the high tuitions of private school.
- Identify at least one security and/or privacy concern that is associated with the data in the data set you chose?
- A privacy concern associated with the data set is that students and their amount of debt can be traced back if there isn't high privacy regarding the information.
- If your data set included a visualization, explain the purpose of the visualization. How would you change or improve the visualization? If it did not include a visualization, describe one that you think would be useful in understanding the data.
- The data set I chose included a visualization. It was used in order to show trends among the data and to provide a big picture image of the data that was shared. I would change the visual in order to improve it by including areas where you can type in the name of a school to see the specific amount of student debt there.
