Welcome to the online teaching portfolio of Katherine Ryker! I am currently a Ph.D. candidate at North Carolina State University studying Geoscience Education under Dr. David McConnell. I have decided to put my teaching portfolio online to document the way my teaching evolves through a variety of experiences. The light of even the best teachers grows dim when they become complacent in the classroom. As an educator, it is my duty to challenge myself throughout my career. I hope to show here some of the growth that has resulted... so far!
At this time, my portfolio includes a cross-section of the three years I spent teaching and coordinating MEA 110: Physical Geology lab. Although I taught high school before coming to NC State, I have chosen to keep my secondary and collegiate teaching portfolios as separate entities. Since this posting, I have begun teaching two additional college courses - MEA 101: Physical Geology and MEA 592: Geology of North Carolina for Teachers (a graduate level class), as well as a hybrid and online version of MEA 110: Physical Geology lab. I am applying what I have learned about teaching to both of these experiences, and look forward to describing my endeavors in both of these here.

Something that I have become interested in recently is the production of short instructional videos for my introductory lectures and labs. I have included two below to give you an idea of what some of these look like.
