Last evening, LPS, CC, EC and I tried to capture Yellow Wagtails for a new project, but unfortunately no birds of this species were caught (we will have to find out where they're roosting!), and we entertained ourselves processing the 25 birds of 12 species that were mist-netted.
This morning, however, there were loads of migrants and we caught exactly 100 birds of 18 species. Highlights of these two sessions were two Aquatic Warblers, a Garden Warbler with a ring from Czech Republic and, for me, two Reed Buntings (which were colour-ringed). The totals are the following (retraps between parenthesis):
Acrocephalus arundinaceus 1 (1)
Acrocephalus paludicola 2
Acrocephalus schoenobaenus 7
Acrocephalus scirpaceus 28 (4)
Alcedo atthis 1
Anthus triviallis 9
Caprimulgus europaeus 2
Cettia cetti 1
Cisticola juncidis 3
Emberiza schoeniclus (2)
Euplectes afer 12 (2)
Ficedula hypoleuca 2 (1)
Hippolais polyglotta 3
Hirundo rustica 10
Locustella luscinioides 2 (1)
Locustella naevia 5 (1)
Luscinia megarhynchus 3 (1)
Muscicapa striata 1
Phylloscopus ibericus 1
Phylloscopus trochilus 11
Sylvia atricapilla (1)
Sylvia borin 3 (1 from Czech Republic)
Sylvia communis 2
Turdus merula (1)
CC and I saw another ACROLA in the field, apparently a juvenile without rings, and I found a Golden Oriole, which is my first observation of this species at Salreu (perhaps the first ever).
More news soon...
