Conferences, Aquatic Warblers and a request

Post date: Nov 26, 2013 10:20:59 AM

I've never been in so many conferences as this year. I was at the ecological speciation conference in CIBIO, Vairão, Porto, at the ESEB conference in Lisbon, gave an invited talk at the Spanish Scientific Ringing Congress in San Sebastian, Spain, and recently was at the Aquatic Warbler Conference (and AWCT meeting) in Vilnius, Lithuania. During the latter, presented a poster with the latest results from Portugal (see below), updating the info published in Ardeola back in 2010.

Also got additional responsibilities at the AWCT, making the commitment to gather and analyse all the ringing data of Aquatic Warblers. Perhaps now it will be possible to determine the fuelling dynamics of this species throughout its migratory route, and also to determine juvenile and adult survivals and source and sink populations, all of which are crucial to make informed conservation decisions. However, this is dependent on individual ringers and ringing centres to actually provide the data, which might not be so easy.

Hence, I hereby request anyone with ringing data of AW to send it to me in Excel or Access formats. The data should be as complete as possible: in addition to the usual biometric info, it would be good to know habitat, ringing effort, whether song playback was used and how (night or day), etc. Providing the data does not preclude the ringers to publish their data on their own, and if the contribution is large the ringers will also be included in the publications resulting from my analyses. Thanks to all AW people for their help!

Cheers
