Autumn's mists & mellow fruitfulness was accompanied by 4 weeks commuting daily to Guildford to rehearse Helen Edmundson's adaptation of George Eliot's 'The Mill on the Floss', working with 3rd year students at Guildford School of Acting.Creatively stimulating, collaborative & very satisfying, This full production in GSA's Ivy Studio theatre was designed by Amy Watts, with whom I've worked on Political Theatre devised pieces at East 15; & had beautiful sound design by Stu Sibley. Together with 8 young, talented emerging actors the audience entered a world underpinned by the sound of the watermill, the River Floss, & the brooding atmosphere of constraint experienced by 19th century women who dared to be different & find their voice....
The piece was originally created in 1997 with Shared Experience. The physicality, movement motifs & ensemble playing was integral to our approach. Movement sequences were devised by the company, under the direction of Laura Weston.
