Two hymns our choir often sings at Thanksgiving are John Rutter's arrangements of "Look at the world" and Pierpoint's "For the beauty of the earth":
We thought "Look at the world" had a "Disney" flavor, so some started calling it "It's a small world". At one rehearsal, esteemed bass Dr. Tom Keens announced to the choir that I'd combined the two songs, so when I returned home, I did, after a fashion. Here's the overlay line, first by itself, then over the "Look at the world" refrain melody (after v.1), both posted in the spirit of parody, and out of great respect for the composer and his work:
The song "It's a small world" was written in 1964 by the brothers Richard and Robert Sherman for the New York World's Fair and the eponymous Disney ride. In July 2025 a new verse, written by Richard Sherman, was added to the ride; hear more about it here: The Last Verse.
