Uncle Howard Hansen
December 7, 1985
Mom lost the transcription database of Howard's story. I thought about it for several
years and thought it would be possible to scan the document with an OCR scanner
to save it. I finally purchased one but did not learn how to use it until now.
This is the result of that effort.
At the time I was scanning the document, it occurred to me that I should create a website
that would make this information available to anybody interested in what a 'hero' of WW2
is like. Howard's story is off the cuff, and we have many 'thanks' to offer my Mom for
taking the time and effort to record this story to replicate the nature of his narrative. It is
important to remember the sacrifices many made for our nation and the people of the world.
NOTE: I have added pictures on the right side or bottom of the text to illustrate some of the things
that Howard mentioned in his storyline. These were not a part of Mom's original document.
