Due to the pandemic, the JH Family Reunions
have been cancelled for 2020 and 2021.
We anticipate starting them again in the summer of
2021. We will know better in the early part of 2022.
In the meantime, the JHF website is transitioning to
a slightly changed format, and I hope that not much
info will be lost. If you have questions, send Dave a
note. This is a bit beyond me, and it is going to take a
long time before I am competent at making the transition.

Gail Schnieber wrote:
I was reviewing the Hansen stories on DNA written in 2017. I wanted
to say a couple comments that relatives had said about the lineage.
In 1982, Wayne Peterson came through and visited my family. He had
an impressive amount of genealogy knowledge, and what he was
saying caught my interest. At the time, he said that we were Danish.
That wasn’t entirely new information to me because in 1973 when I
was living in California, my dad and mom came to visit us and while
they were there dad wanted to go see his Uncle John. So we visited
him in San Bernardino, California. He played his accordion, what a
treat! Now he also said he was Danish, because the boundaries had
changed. Now, because my grandma was born in what is sometimes
called Jubek, Germany or Lubeck, Germany she never believed what
was said of her heritage. Even my Grandpa when he met my grandma
thought she was Scandinavian because of the spelling of her last name.
He must have been right.

Hi Dave,
Thought you could send out word to the relatives that mom's (Ida Olson) time

may have a few weeks to a month left.
We wanted to give the family time to visit if they would like before she passes.
If anyone has photos of mom and or a great story or poem please let me know.
She is now at Cousin Cindy's.
Please call or send an email to Dave Hansen if you would like Cindy's phone

for a few days then transferred to a Friendship Health Center where
she is making great progress! In a week or two she will be moving in

and she is working on getting mobility and strength in her right
arm and strength in walking again with out too much assistance.

Update of Cousin Chuck's (Hansen) situation:
Dad was admitted to the VA Hospital on Friday with breathing problems and loss of appetite. At the hospital, he was given medication that he's supposed to be taking on a regular basis every day. This is a medication that needs to be worked up to a certain dose to allow the body to tolerate. However, it was found out later, that he hadn't been taking the medications as he was supposed to, and there were complications. After being admitted, there was a weakening of his heart, his blood pressure became low, and he had more breathing complications.
He was admitted to the ICU, and is there currently. He has a central IV, and a tube in his throat so he is unable to talk at this time. He has since vastly improved, and is on half the dosage of medication for his heart, and his blood pressure medication has been dicontinued. He is able to communicate through writing, and his sense of humor is still intact as he's been asking for blackberries, strawberries, and watermelon.
Dad is in good spirits and will be evaluated tomorrow whether the tube in his throat can be removed, and he can possibly eat some food! He will be in the VA Hospital for a few more days possibly up to a week.
Thanks,
Tony

Hey Dave
Just wanted to give you an update on mom (aka Aunt Ida!). It appears that surgeons were able
to remove the entire tumor and that the path. report came back on her lymph nodes and other
organs and she is free of cancer for now! She has had trouble with the incision however.
Since they had to perform major surgery as the tumor was so large, the incision is quite something.
It did get infected which really affected mom tremendously. However the infection is under
control and the doctor said it seems to be healing pretty good. I took her to her Dr. appt today
and he was pretty happy with the look of things.
I still have to pack the wound and change the dressing about 2Xs a day, I am getting pretty good
at it!!!! Mom's energy level is pretty low but it is understandable due to her fighting the infection
and going through the healing process. She is using a walker for the time being and tires pretty
easily, this should change over time.
She loves all the "get well" cards and the flowers . . . she really appreciates it.
She sends her love to everyone.
Patty

Shout it from the rooftops...Eldon and Marlene Schnoor will celebrate their Diamond Wedding Anniversary on August 27, 2010!
On August 27, 1950, Eldon Schnoor of Tilden, Nebraska wed Marlene Ahlers of Clearwater, Nebraska at the Lutheran Church in Clearwater. The two newlyweds farmed north of Tilden for nine years before Eldon began a distinguished career with the Nebraska and American Farm Bureau. They've both been gifted with many wonderful travels within the United States and abroad that have led to a fulfilling journey over 60 years of togetherness.
Eldon and Marlene have lived many places during his career and have gained tremendous friendships with people all over the United States. Through those years, Marlene provided a warm, stable and loving home as she raised their four children; Gary, Randy, Janet and Cindy. Both husband and children are grateful for her loving heart, selfless sacrifices and wonderful cooking. As husband and wife, they've cultivated relationships with friends and family that remain sincere and steadfast.
Please join me and my siblings in honoring these two wonderful people by participating in a "Card Shower" for their 60th (Diamond) wedding anniversary. Please send cards of congratulations to their home in Colorado:
Eldon & Marlene Schnoor

Another item that may be of interest is that on December 30, 1934 when Carsten and
Margaretta Hansen were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary my parents Max and Marie
Schnoor were celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary. Marie was the oldest grandchild of
Carsten and Margareeta. On that same date another grandchild was married. That was
Walter Petersen and his wife Lorraine.

Aloha Dave,
Re your last email. Here's me at the beach in Vina Del Mar, an hour's
drive from Santiago, Chili, South America.
Driving in Chili is a hoot with a take no prisoners attitude and ended up driving
in Santiago at rush hour during which the speed is 2 feet forward and 1 foot
backward -- again take no prisoners.
The time share is the building against the mountain.

The Wedding Anniversary of
Carsten and Margaretta Hansen
December 30, 1934
Can anybody identify this picture?
I identify this picture as my great grandparents Carsten and Margaretta Hansen taken
on their Golden Wedding anniversary, December 30, 1934.
--Gail Nordahl Schnieber--
.........
That is Carsten and Margraetta Hansenwho is John Hansen's parents. They lived in
Neligh, Nebraska when I was young. Carsten died in about 1935 or their about. Margaretta
later moved to Tilden, Nebraska to live next to M J and Anna Peterson. She lived there
until her death. They are my Great Grandparents. --Eldon Schnoor--
........
Dave, the picture you had posted on your webpage of Carsten & Margarette Hansen
for us to identify may have been taken for their 50th wedding anniversary.
I remember I was a small boy when he died in Neligh. NE. I remember going
to the mortician to see his body which was in the furniture store. That was a
common practice back in those days for mortician’s to have furniture stores together.
We lived north of Tilden on a farm and Tilden was where we mostly traded. When we
went to Neligh to the county seat we would always stop to visit them. The had a
house close to downtown and on the main highway. She always had cookies for us
when we came to visit.
As I stated yesterday, when M J & Anna Petersen retired from the farm to Tilden they
moved Great Grandmother Hansen to the house next door to them so they could look
after her. We saw her there much more often.
I also remember in the late 1940’s John Hansen & his youngest son John Thomas came
to Nebraska with a pickup with a camper shell on the back to visit his mother and relative
in the area. Thomas, Wayne Petersen & I did a little prowling around that one weekend
together doing what young single men to at that age. We had to show Thomas what the
big city of Norfolk was about. Thomas was about my age.
Seeing that picture brought back some old memories. I am probably the oldest great
grandson of Carsten & Margarette Hansen. --Eldon Schnoor--
