榴槤源自於婆羅洲郡島，其中以泰國產量最大，品質優良，出口最多。由於成熟的榴槤果肉金黃、香甜可口，加上獨特的味道，讓老饕們愛不釋手，更有著水果之王的稱號。

榴槤的中文名稱是來自於馬來語Durian音譯而來，Duri為刺，an為語尾，意思指的就是「帶刺的東西」。

台灣進口榴槤大多是來自泰國，1997年更高達3.6萬頓；在泰國當地人較喜愛青尼(Chanee)，原因在於它有非常濃厚的榴槤香，比起金枕頭香氣更濃郁、口感更綿密但果肉少於金枕頭，更被視為珍貴之物。

榴槤的營養包括蛋白質、脂肪、澱粉、維他命A及C、其含有份量也比其他水果都高。青尼外觀和金枕頭很像，個頭稍小，形狀較勻稱，顏色較綠，而最明顯的差異是尾錐凹陷，果肉深黃、籽較大，其香味濃郁，多數泰國人、老饕愛吃青尼更勝金枕頭。

青尼於3月下旬，4月上、中旬大出，愛好榴槤的人，宜把握時機。
