Highlight:

We have successfully created the world’s strongest multiferroic material by applying strain to the double perovskite complex oxide, EuTiO3. The sample was grown by MBE and epitaxial, phase pure, films are grown with and without strain on different substrates. Ferroelectricity is observed by SHG and a clear ferromagnetic hysteresis loop, with sharp switching to full saturation is observed by MOKE in strained EuTiO3 with es = +1.1% (EuTiO3/DyScO3), signifying that it is ferroelectric and ferromagnetic in contrast to EuTiO3 with es = –0.9% (EuTiO3/LSAT) or es = 0.0% (EuTiO3/SrTiO3), as shown above.
