I’m a Marine, a movie?

"This book should be made into a movie." That was the evaluation virtually every one of my proofreaders and personal editors said about my third book, I’m a Marine. None of them made that comment about either of my first two books.

My name is Jeff Bailey. I’m a retired scientist and engineer. While I’m now retired, I worked in one nuclear related industry or another for forty-five years. I take the inspiration from by books from my own experience in nuclear weapons, nuclear power plants, research reactors, and my years on the Science and Engineering staff of one America’s national laboratories. I also add elements from real life events. All of my thrillers are based on nuclear terrorism. My novel, The Defect, for instance is based on the events surrounding the accidental melt down and destruction of the nuclear power plant at Three Mile Island. I just tell the fictional account of what might have been the story behind the cover up.

I’m a Marine is the story of a female, Aviation Firefighter/Paramedic in the Marine Corp. Lance Corporal Casandra Sing witnesses the murder of two military police gate guards at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. Because of her situation, Cassie is alone, unarmed, and unable to communicate with her chain of command. With the honor of a true Marine, she decides that it her duty to stop these men. She doesn’t discover until it is too late that the men have also stolen two nuclear weapons from the nuclear arsenal at Ft. Sill. She decides to see it through to the end.

The character of Cassie Sing is based, in part, on my granddaughter who is an active duty Lance Corporal Aviation Firefighter/Paramedic in the Marines and is currently stationed in Japan. Other parts of the story are based on my own experience as an Army Nuclear Weapons Maintenance Specialist stationed at Ft. Sill.

I don’t have a clue how to approach the marketing of I’m a Marine to the movie industry. I live the Pacific Northwest, a world away from Hollywood. I have no contacts or networks in the movie industry. I do know one thing. I’m talking about Hollywood, Miracle City. Anything can happen and usually does. All it takes on one referral, one introduction, or the right person to notice to make it all happen.  Deer Hawk Publications has scheduled I’m a Marine for release in May of 2017.

Read the opening pages of I’m a Marine.

My name is Jeff Bailey. I write nuclear thrillers for a reason, I’ve worked in nuclear related industries, from nuclear weapons to nuclear research, for fifty years. Deer Hawk Publications released my first book, The Defect in June of 2016. In The Defect, I tell the story of a terrorist attack on a nuclear power plant and why the government covered it up. The Defect is based on true events. Deer Hawk Publications is scheduled to release I’m a Marine in May of 2017. I’m a Marine is about a female aviation firefighter in the U.S. Marines who witnesses the murder of two M.P.s. She decides that it is her duty to stop them. Keep in mind that I write nuclear thrillers. The Chilcoat Project, to be released in spring of 2018, is about the theft of nuclear weapons secrets from a national laboratory. The Chilcoat Project is also based on true events. My current project, Wine Country, is based on the true story of the Radioactive Boy Scout, but with a more sinister twist.
