Turning the Veil of Forgetting from the Past: A Study on Birthmarks, Extra-cerebral Memory and Reincarnation

Resumo: Este artigo objetiva perscrutar a emersão dos fenômenos de "birthmarks" (sinais ou marcas de nascença) e memória extracerebral, que ocorreu em meados do século XX, na América, África, Ásia e em outras partes do mundo, chamando a atenção de acadêmicos como Ian Stevenson (1970), Hemendra Banerjee (1987) e Hernani Guimarães Andrade (2016), numa analogia às mesas girantes que no século XIX, estavam em voga e chamaram a atenção dos eruditos. O objeto de estudo é a sede da memória. Objetivos específicos: i) fazer um estudo sobre os conceitos de "birthmarks" e memória extracerebral, à luz da ciência; ii) denotar a alma, o perispírito e a sede da memória na visão espírita e iii) apresentar um caso sobre "birthmarks", do livro Reencarnação no Brasil, de Hernani Guimarães Andrade. A metodologia escolhida é a pesquisa bibliográfica e documental, de abordagem qualitativa, intencionada em evidenciar casos de crianças com idade entre 3 e 6 anos, que apresentavam marcas congênitas e emersões mnemônicas, recordando espontaneamente, como acontecia a formação dessas marcas em outra existência, quase sempre ligadas a traumas ou ferimentos, que causavam sua presumida morte. Espera-se com esse trabalho responder à seguinte indagação: as emersões mnemônicas e os "birthmarks", um fato relativamente novo, posterior aos estudos de Allan Kardec, ao rasgar o véu do esquecimento do passado, podem contradizer o pensamento de Kardec?

Abstract: This paper aims to analyze the emersion of the phenomena of "birthmarks" and extracerebral memory, which occurred in the middle of the 20th century, in America, Africa, Asia and other parts of the world. These phenomena drew attention from scholars like Ian Stevenson (1970), Hemendra Banerjee (1987) and Hernani Guimarães Andrade (1986), in analogy to the attention given to the turning tables phenomena of the century XIX. The object of study is the seat of memory. Specific objectives: i) carry out a study on the concepts of birthmarks and extra-cerebral memory, in the light of science; ii) denote the soul, the perispirit and memory of the thirst in the spiritist vision and iii) present a case about "birthmarks", from the book Reincarnation in Brazil, by Hernani Guimarães Andrade. The methodology chosen for this research is the qualitative bibliographic and documentary research based on highlighted cases of congenital marks and mnemonic emersions in children aged between 3 and 6 years. These kids had spontaneous memory recalls of how these brands were formed in a previous existence, in the most of cases linked to trauma or injury suffered at their presumed death. This work intends to answer the following questions: mnemonic immersions and "birthmarks", a relatively new kind of empirical evidence for the survival of the soul, subsequent to the studies of Allan Kardec, that tear the veil of forgetfulness of the past, can contradict his thinking?
