Artifacts and Narrative
i) Being a good citizen includes being healthy. While at BSM the Parent Association asked a colleague and myself to present on promoting a
healthy balance in our student's lives. I created a prezi for this. http://prezi.com/i8tok2sijnxe/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy&rc=ex0share
ii) I was the Math League coach for many years at BSM. While I was there, I implemented becoming part of the Interstellar Math Competition. This
competition was nationwide and had our students competing against students literally from across the country. This helped foster curiosity and
interest in different schools, cities and states.
iii) Having lived in 7 different countries, on an almost daily basis, I bring up stories and applications involving different cultures and life abroad. Whether
it be finding the volume of the Pyramids of Giza to the flow of water in a wadi in Oman to the arc of a softball home run at a tournament in Dubai.
These stories and pictures excited and engaged my students. They always were eager to hear more about a place (and not just the mathematical
applications). To this day I am pleased and proud to hear of former students moving abroad and making a positive impact in our broader world. I like t
to think that my little stories may have contributed a little to their taking a big step.
iv) A fun and entertaining video can be used to explain the copyright and digital use rules: www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJn_jC4FNDo
