What is STEM?
The STEM Academy is an advanced four year program that is offered to students enrolled in Lacey Township High School. STEM is an acronym that stands for science, technology, engineering, and math. The program introduces students to more in depth and modern technology through projects that connect multiple subjects, not just science and math. The teachers of the STEM academy, Mr. Kuzan and Mr. Setaro, are currently working on including even more subjects then we do now. Currently the three STEM courses offered to students enrolled in the academy are a STEM Core elective class, a STEM math, and an advanced STEM science. Soon, we hope to incorporate both World History and English into future projects. This program utilizes a student's ability to think outside the box, work with their hands, and put what they have learned into a real life situation. Later years incorporate more networking and leadership skills to instroduce STEM students to more business and entrepreneurship engineering and designing. STEM doesn't require students to just sit in a desk and copy down notes; students enrolled in STEM have the opportunity to learn from projects and labs that are assigned throughout the years. We learn how to create websites, correctly give a presentation, collect data in an accurate way, how to utilize modern technology, and it gives us the opportunity to pursue more tech based careers in the future.
