Pedigrees

Family Group Pedigrees for Brewer descendants of Johannes (Jan) Brouwer

The following participants in the Brewer Surname DNA Project have been assigned, by Y-DNA Test Kit Number, to the JAN BROUWER LINE, color coded Yellow in the  Y-DNA results chart located  at www.familytreedna.com/public/BrewerDNA/

These BREWERs all have matching genetic signatures at a significant 37 marker resolution (some with 67 and 111 markers) and together with the genealogical paper trail (presented in brief outline below) for descendants of Elias4, identifies the family patriarchs leading to Johannes Brouwer of Flatlands (1632-1702). The participant’s  genetic signatures and pedigrees currently lead to associating them with the currently four presumed branches of the family of Johannes Brouwer.

Sons of Elias3 (Derck2, Johannes1) Brouwer and Helena Willemse.

Son of  Jan3 ((Derck2, Johannes1) Brouwer and Aegie Sprong

C)  JOHN4 (JAN) BROUWER (bp 20 Mar 1726) of Hempstead, Queens, NY m. Hannah Abrams

Unknown link to Johannes Brouwer

The branches A), B) and C) are shown in the following graphic tied to the two allele values  15 and 16 of the Y-DNA locus DYS19. Branch D) is not depicted but all their signatures carry a value of 15 at DYS19 and are descendants of either Derk2 or Pieter2.

The very close genetic match between the families provides evidence that both the Dirk4/Derick Brewer and the John Brewer family groups share a common ancestor with Elias4 Brouwer, who is descended from Jan Brouwer of Flatlands through Elias3(Derck2, Jan1). The genealogical connecting links between the John Brewer branch has not yet been determined and further research is ongoing. See “Speculations” page. A key genetic distinction indicating a branching from their common ancestor is the occurrence of a random mutation at DYS#19 which shows a value of 16 in the Elias4 line and a 15 in both the Dirk4, Jan4, and  the John Brewer lines (not shown on the graphic). Each family has been able to determine their ancestral haplotype (the genetic signature of the earliest known ancestor) and their haplogroup. The determination of the genetic signature of the Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA) and the method of estimating their ancestral haplotype is provided on the “MRCA” page of this site.

Viewers who find they have a genealogical connection (or a genetic DNA match but limited paper trail) with one of the below listed participant’s are invited to join the project, take a DNA test and contact the individual at the e-mail address provided to members and to exchange genealogical data with them.

NOTES: Kit 157835, has an exact 37/37 marker match to Kit 163954, as well as Kit 60686 of the presumed John BREWER Branch, and 35/37 match to Kit 44994 of the Elias BROUWER Branch, indicating they are tightly related (very few people achieve this close level of a match) with a 99% likelihood they share a common ancestor. The Richard Brewer (1790) in Kit 60689's line is claimed NOT to be the Richard /Derick Brewer (1790) in Kit 157835’s line. but are they really distinct? See “Open Issues” item 2.  It is currently postulated that Dirk4 (Elias3, Derck2,Jan1) Brouwer (bp. 1732) is the likely common ancestor between Kit 163954 and Kit 157835, as indicated by bold type in their pedigree listing. However, definitive genealogical paper work supporting this conjecture is not yet available and further research is on-going. See further discussion under “Speculation”.

His closest 67 marker matches (62/67) are at a genetic distance of 5 to  Kit 60686,  Embody, Olson, and Kit 144256 and (61/67) a genetic distance of 6 to Kit 118063 , Kit 109475 , and Kit 187629 (see the John4/Jan Brewer branch above).  Also closely related at 37 marker level (34/37) to Kit 163954 and Kit 157835,  Possibly descended from Elias3 Brouwer (b. ~1698).

NOTE: The following participants match 35 or better out of 37 markers and therefore have a 99% likelihood of having a common ancestor in a descendant of Johannes Brouwer of Flatlands. They are included in the John Brewer branch out of convenience for the purpose of  grouping. Connecting paperwork is not yet available.

--------------------------------------

NOTE:  Kit 109475 matches exactly 37/37 markers with Kit 80836  above.  Aaron W. Brewer is believed (though not yet proven) to be the son of Aaron Brewer and Polly McFarland  of Harrison Co. KY and that this Aaron Brewer (b. ca 1787 VA)  and Steven Brewer (b. 1772 VA), are very closely related, either brothers or first cousins. Tentative Information on Aaron Brewer has been compiled by Chris Chester and posted  at

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~brouwergenealogydata/Research/aaronbrewer1787.pdf

and similar information on Stephen Brewer is at

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~brouwergenealogydata/Research/stephenbrewer1772.pdf

Kit 109475 also matches 36/37 markers with Kit 163954 Kit 157835, and Kit 60686 as well as  Embody and  Olson.  The close relationship to Kit 157835 implies likely descent from the Elias3 Brewer line.

Tested at 67 markers and carrying the rare marker DYS565 Allele value of 7 repeats that uniquely defines the Johannes Brouwer family, his 36 or 37/37 marker match to the other pedigrees who have not yet tested at 67 markers validates their descent from Johannes Brouwer in spite of lack of concrete genealogical documentation.

Kit Number: 127256  Test: Y-DNA37

Robert has failed to provide any pedigree information and is included solely on his genetic match of 34/37 with Kit 80836, showing he is related (probability of 75% within 12 generations)  and probably related (33/37) to Kit 60686, Richard Olson, Kit 163954, Kit 157835 , and David Embody.

--------------------------------------

ROSE/ EMBODY surnames genetically matched to the JOHN BREWER branch.  Margaret (Rose) Bond is the contact margbond@aol.com. The participants with the ROSE family surname below are well documented descendants of John (Sr.) and Dorothy Rose.   These descendants carrying the Rose, Olson and Embody surnames are clearly very closely related genetically to the descendants of John Brewer (b. 1733 ) who married Elsie Lewis/Dunbar), the patriarch of the JOHN BREWER branch.  Olson and Embody show exact 67/67  marker matches to Kit 60686,  indicating they are tightly related (very few people achieve this close level of a match) and other Rose members show 35 and 36/37 marker matches which also indicates a close relationship. It is believed that Brewer children, related to John/Elsie Brewer, were taken in by the Rose and Embody families and they took those surnames as their own. The paper trail connection to the Brewer branch has not been established and research is on-going. For further information see bottom of the MRCA page.
