The thirteenth child and sixth son of James and Janet, was born 2nd May 1881, registered (6598) at Amphitheatre.
James, his father, was the informant at his birth, when he was described as "a miner, aged 54, born in Glasgow, while Caroline Janet was listed as being 45, (she was really almost 47) and born in London. It's interesting that there is no sign of James' alleged middle name of "Nicholas", nor Janet's occupation of "teacher assistant/workmistress" at the Mountain Hut school.
The birth certificate listed Neil's siblings as Janet (dec), Caroline, 26, James, 24, Adelaide 23, Florence, (dec), Evelyn, 19, Archibald, 17, Eliza, 16, George, 13, Alexander, 11, Janet, 8 and Angus, 2 years.
Neil lived only one day (3300), and was buried in Amphitheatre-Glenlogie Cemetery, perhaps with his sister, Florence Amy, who had died in 1879.
History shows that Neil was the last child born to James and Janet. However, after such a long period of fecundity, James and Janet, and the older kids, must have thought that at least one more was possible. Instead, an unexpected first grandchild for for James and Janet was to arrive before the end of the year.
