This seventh child and second son of James and Janet was born 14th December1863, and registered 85 at Mountain Hut.
The letter written by him from the campsite at Redbank in 1878 to his parents at Mountain Hut on the other side of the Pyrenees shows, for his 14 years, a remarkable command of letter writing, and a quaint turn of phrase, giving a glimpse into the conversations of the time. It’s believed that Archibald’s favourite sister was Florence, and that her death in October 1879, when he was almost 16, affected him greatly. Archibald’s third daughter was named Florence Margaret, though for reasons unknown, but perhaps due to painful memories, he always called her "Bob".
The youthful photograph of Archibald, one of a series taken of the McVicar siblings, is held by descendants of Pearl M.
Because Arch was my ancestor, I am able and wish to represent his life in more detail. Therefore I have created separate pages for the two main adult sections of his life.
