Central Kenya
Jalia works in the Central Highlands of Kenya, in the counties of Laikipia and Nyeri.
The majority of our work is in Nanyuki, a town that lies on the equator in the foothills of Mount Kenya. It is 1,947m above sea-level making it the 14th highest town in Africa.
The population of Nanyuki is about 40,000 with the majority making their living from small scale trade, such as market stalls. The town is currently a base for the Kenya Air Force and a training area for the British Army. It is also an administrative and supply centre for farms, ranches, game parks and conservancies in the region.
As a trading town, Nanyuki is comparatively cosmopolitan and a large number of the 42 ethnic groups found in Kenya make their home here.
