Gatsby is a star.....its official!!!
Earlier in the year, February time we were still very much in the dark as to whether the wee man (he was only 7 months old when he went in in with the ladies) had 'performed'. But amazing, of the 7 ewes he covered 6 and we have 10 beautiful 3/4 suffolk lambs this year.
Lambing went very wel all ewes lambed pretty easily and we sat back and watched as it were!
This year is very exciting seeing Gatsbys progeny, it will be very interesting to see how they finish, at present (July) they are looking like a very nice shape and growing on nicely.
We think that these are perhaps the nicest lambs we have ever had, that said the Hampshire we used to use produced very nice lambs indeed.
Great to have a year with no losses, it efinitely pays off having younger ewes. Hopefully we shall have Gatsby and these girls at least another 2 years.
All great fun.
Gats has grown o Very nicely, he is trained to halter and has a new 'love' in his life. That is in the form of Vinnie, my welsh cob
So neither of them get too lonely we have teamed them up. Surprisingly it works quite well, Gatsby is friendly enough to move around, but stand offish enough for me to deal with the horse, in and out of gates with no real interference.
