We chose to breed some hens looking at old utility type birds. We decided on Barnevelders to start with and Light Sussex to follow. So we bought some breeding stock, 2 boys 7 girls.
Lambs this year were just right, 6 in all, twins each for our 2 originals, + 2 more form Jenny one of two more we were given, unfortunately we lost clarissa during lambing….These things happen I am afraid.
We applied to the planning department to build a small barn, very exciting it was agreed so we went ahead.
We or rather Chris dug the footings by hand, only 12 x 24 feet, but that a lot of earth! The concrete was laid the week before the snow came in December, it was bitterly cold, but a good job done in the nick of time
At last, finally done Christmas eve 2011, we had been waiting since the planning application was submitted in April for this, don’t expect anything to move quickly when planning are involved. Patience really is a virtue!!
