Prior to 1976, the Orange Lionettes, along with the Raybestos Brakettes, dominated women’s softball. They won nine National Championships and were a major force in the development and promotion of their sport. When the International Women’s Professional Softball (IWPS) league was formed in 1976, they joined the league as the Santa Ana Lionettes. Their decision to turn pro lent instant credibility to the pro softball league. Unfortunately due to financial losses and philosophical difference the Lionettes played only the first two seasons in the league. The franchise was moved to White Plains N.Y. in 1979. This is their story.
