Book description:

THE information contained in this work is intended to serve as an introduction to Sierra Leone and its people.

My primary role is that of editor in the compilation of the material which constitutes this book. I have only edited the material to provide a coherent work on Sierra Leone. The sources are fully acknowledged as an expression of gratitude for making this work possible. But I have also added my own material, here and there throughout the book, based on my knowledge of Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone is one of the oldest countries which were created by Europeans in Africa. Its history is also one of the most tragic.

Although the land and the people are the focus of this work, other aspects of Sierra Leone are also examined to get a comprehensive picture of the country.

The book should help many foreigners to learn some basic facts about the country, especially if they want to go to Sierra Leone.

Even those who don't intend to go to Sierra Leone may find this work to be useful.

It may also help some students in different fields to learn some of the things they need to know about Sierra Leone, but bearing in mind that the work is no more than a basic introduction to one of the most fascinating countries on the African continent in spite of the horrendous tragedy it went through during the civil war in the 1990s.

The fact that it emerged intact from that brutal conflict is strong testimony to the resilience of the Sierra Leonean people against overwhelming odds which could have broken weaker souls.
