Sorry if anything looks broken. I'm still in the process of migrating to the new version of Google Sites.
Miscellaneous Questions
This page contains various questions for my contest which do not point to any specific fake, yet still allow you to earn points. It also includes questions for fakes/videos too small for their own topic.
Please PM me at Sal's Realm, Zybez, or Tip.It, (click links for my profile at each; you can PM me from there) or post on an active topic of mine in Screenshot Fakes (Sal's), Screenshots and Videos (Zybez), or RuneScape Media (Tip.It) if you wish to answer one of these questions. Note that if a topic has not received posts for several days (fourteen at Sal's), it is inactive and thus usually against the rules to post in it!
Note: [sealed] will appear in place of certain words in a question if those words may give away the answer to another question. [Sealed] will be replaced with the proper word(s) once the other question has been answered. Sometimes an entire question may be sealed in this manner.
Also, questions in the Easter eggs, references, and how-I-faked-it categories have a different background color based on what fake they are referring to (as well as a link to the fake). Note that the colors repeat cyclically, but you shouldn't get confused since there are many questions separating unrelated fakes with the same background. Questions for the same fake, under the same category, are always consecutive. The Goals have backgrounds based on the scoresheet column they involve.
Finding Easter eggs: These are typically "what" or "where" questions, asking you to find something in a fake. They may also sometimes ask you to explain it, but that is usually what the next category is for.
It is possible to view "hidden statistics" in the Contest Scoresheet. In order to view them, however, you have to do something special, and you need to have Macromedia Fireworks. How do you view the statistics? 15₧ The statistics for Goals, Goal ₧, and Distribution ₧ were hidden prior to my 5/16/10 update of the scoresheet. To view them, you had to right-click the scoresheet, click "Save Image As...", save it, open it in Fireworks, and click "Fit Canvas" or move the chart to the left. Found by Randomness.
This picture has one slight edit to it. Bonus: figure out what the reference is to. 2₧ (+5₧) The butterfly was recolored to red, a reference to this sig of mine. Found by TheRazingLight (bonus not found).
In this fake I edited something that had nothing to do with the main focus of the fake. What is it? 3₧ The scale has been changed to 666. Found by ryuski.
In this random fake, most things on the list are related in a fairly obvious way. But one is actually an unrelated pun... You'll probably recognize it when you see it :p 2₧ "Por nos felicidad" has nothing to do with porn. It's Spanish for "to our happiness". Found by The Darkest.
[10 Finds] This fake has 10 fake map icons (the ones in grey circles). Each one you can find is worth 2₧. 20₧ All 10 have been found: - ryuski - Capt Hunter
The name of a song is hiding somewhere on this map... 4₧ Hotel California, found by Capt Hunter.
There is a certain icon in this fake which I chose to only place in two cities. I made two jokes, each using the name of a city. One joke plays on the meaning of the icon, and the other is based on the icon's appearance. Name the icon and explain one of the jokes in its placement (bonus for explaining both). 4₧ (+3₧) [2 incorrect guesses] The Magic Shop icon, which looks like a fire, is only found in Salem and Phoenix. It is in Salem because it is a magic shop, and historically the witch hunts began in a town called Salem (not that one, however). It is also in Phoenix because the icon is a fire, and a phoenix is a legendary bird of fire. Both found by The Darkest.
[2 Finds] There are two small hidden edits in this video, not involving the last scene with the talking. One is an extra sound that the druids don't make (4₧), and one is a small graphical edit (6₧). If you find one, please specify the time you see/hear it. 10₧ [2 incorrect guesses] The druids do not make one of the coughs heard at 1:39, found by 696lewa. At 1:06, the druid coughs blood as he dies, also found by 696lewa.
Understanding references: These are (indirectly) the "why" questions, asking you to explain why I put something in my fakes (e.g. what something is a reference to). Note that if a question here asks you to find something and explain it, and you only find it, you will be wrong.
An in-joke hidden in my interactive video interface. Hints: it's related to the zoom toolbox, and it references an Easter egg in the Windows XP version of Microsoft Paint. You can see it here and here. 10₧ [1 incorrect guess] If you click in a thin line between 800% and 1600% zoom, you get 1337% zoom, a reference to the 10x zoom hidden in MS Paint. Found by Chaoss.
The icons in this fake aren't placed randomly. What influenced the way in which I placed them? 7₧ [2 incorrect guesses] {Sealed by Easter egg #3} I did a Google Maps search for the locations of McDonalds' in the US, and placed the icons in the areas that had the most results. Found by The Darkest.
What event do the icons in this fake refer to? 2₧ {Sealed by Easter egg #3} The BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Found by Capt Hunter.
In which fake did I first use the icons that you see in this fake? 12₧ [1 incorrect guess] {Sealed by Easter egg #3} I first used that icon in this fake, where the River Lum had been polluted. Found by ryuski.
Which four football stadiums are represented by the icons scattered throughout this fake? You get 4₧ bonus for each one you answer correctly, but can't try again if you've gotten at least one right! 16₧{Sealed by Easter egg #3} Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts, Qwest Stadium in Seattle, Robertson Stadium in Texas, and RFK Stadium in Washington, DC. Gillette and Qwest found by ryuski.
What building is represented by the icon in this fake? 1₧ [1 incorrect guess] {Sealed by Easter egg #3} United States Capitol building. Found by Capt Hunter.
What site is represented by the icon in this fake? 7₧ {Sealed by Easter egg #3} Area 51. Found by ryuski.
What area is represented by the icon in this fake? 9₧ {Sealed by Easter egg #3} Yellowstone National Park. Found by Capt Hunter.
Why does the icon in this fake happen to be placed where it is? 5₧ [1 incorrect guess] {Sealed by Easter egg #3} Although the Springfield in The Simpsons is not a real town, there is a town called Springfield here, so I placed a Bart Simpson icon here. Found by Capt Hunter.
The icon and adjacent icon in this fake are placed together in Chicago for a reason - namely, they refer to one of my favorite TV shows. What show is it, and (bonus) how does my visual riddle relate to it? 20₧ (+5₧) {Sealed by Easter egg #3} Married... with Children, a sitcom which takes place in Chicago. The theme song is "Love and Marriage" by Frank Sinatra, and I used the icons to hint that detail (a heart for love and a ring for marriage). Found by ryuski (bonus not earned).
I decided to make a little reference-joke in this fake by placing the Slayer Master icon in Los Angeles. What show is it a reference to? 6₧ Buffy the Vampire Slayer is set in Los Angeles. Found by The Darkest.
There's a reason I put so many musician icons in one area of this fake... But what? (Protip: don't over-complicate it :p) 3₧ [1 incorrect guess] Many musicians have come from Seattle (it's also where the grunge movement started). Found by Guitarguy.
Now, why would we need two icons in one city? When it's famous for something. (This fake) 3₧ Las Vegas is famous for gambling. Found by ryuski.
Somewhere south of Carson, California, is an unlabeled city with a load of mining-related icons in this fake. What historical event do all the icons refer to, and (bonus) what city is it? 4₧ (+2₧) The California Gold Rush, which started in Coloma. Found by ryuski, with the bonus.
The locations of the prayer altars in this fake are intentional and related to the names of the cities they are in. Explain the reasons for as many as you can (there are 5) for 2₧ bonus each (once at least one is found the question is closed). 10₧ San Francisco (named for Saint Francis), Santa Fe ("Holy Faith" in Spanish), Los Angeles ("The Angels" in Spanish), Saint Paul, and Sacramento ("The Holy Sacrament" in Spanish). All 5 found by ryuski.
[9 Finds] In this kit, under the Miscellaneous Sample Hitsplats section, I have made several extra (normal damage) hitsplats with specific numbers. The numbers are 1337, 2550, 3260, 6500, 9001, 10000, 20000, 32767, and 65535. Each is a reference to something - but what? 1₧ for figuring out what 1337 or 9001 refer to, 2₧ for figuring out what 20000 or 10000 are references to, 3₧ for figuring out what 32767 or 65535 reference [8 (simultaneous) incorrect guesses. Please don't copy/paste directly from Wikipedia!], and 4₧ for figuring out what 3260 or 6500 reference. 2550 can actually reference at least 4 different things - if you get just one, I give you 2₧, but for each extra one you get, I give you another 3₧ bonus (up to 3 extra references, so up to 9₧ bonus overall - but if you can think of more than 4 references, still post them all, but no more that 8! It'd be kinda unfair if you guessed every possibility under the sun :p. You won't get credit for any more than 4 references, but it's best to be safe in case some are wrong) [3 incorrect guesses]. 22₧ (+9₧)
1337 and 9001 have been found by Guitarguy (Sal's Realm): "leet" in leetspeak, and the meme IT'S OVER NINE-THOUSAND!!!
32767 and 65535 have been found by Den (Tip.It): 32767 is the maximum value of a signed short integer (aka halfword), while 65535 is the max for an unsigned short integer.
2550 and 20000 have been found by Herty (Sal's Realm): Herty found that 2550 could be a reference to the max limit of an 8-bit byte (octet), multiplied by ten (because of the lifepoints update). The other two references I had in mind for this one were the Kalphite Queen's max lifepoints (in both forms), and the max lifepoints of a player after touching the Stone of Jas during While Guthix Sleeps. Unfortunately, we both thought Jad has a max lifepoints of 2550, but a Tip.Iter and a video of Jad's Monster Examine proved us wrong - apparently it's 2500. Herty also found that the max lifepoints of the Corporeal Beast is 20000.
10000, 3260, and 6500 have been found by Capt Hunter (Sal's Realm): 10000 is the max lifepoints of Nomad, as well as his three Avatars, 3260 is the max lifepoints of a tormented demon, and 6500 is (according to RuneWiki) the max lifepoints of the Pest Queen.
In this fake, in the IP/hostname at the top, there is a reference to something from a TV show. What show is it, and (bonus) why does it make sense for an "oldest login" fake? 4₧ (+2₧) The planet Eternium is from Futurama, and it makes sense on an oldest login fake because Eternium has existed since before the big bang. Found by The Darkest (with bonus).
What do you think the "igo" at the start of the hostname in this fake stands for? No, it isn't related to the show mentioned in the above question, but it is still somewhat related to the "centerofuniverse". Hint: the first two letters represent "Inter-Galactic". 7₧ [20 incorrect guesses] "Inter-Galactic Order", or something to that effect. Found by Lonelywolf.
The IP number, 2e5bf271, in this fake is not random. What number is it actually a reference to? 7₧ [1 incorrect guess] The number is hexadecimal for 777777777. Found by The Darkest. Give yourself a cookie if you noticed this question was worth 7₧ :p
The date when the member's credit in this fake expires is a pretty straightforward reference. What does the date refer to? 2₧ The "End of this cycle of creation" in the Mayan Calendar, also known as the Mayan 2012 apocalypse date. Found by Amber Pyre.
The ln(1)-1 in this fake is actually a disguised reference to a mathematical meme. What is it? 3₧ [1 incorrect guess] Because ln(1) is zero, and anything to the -1st power is 1 divided by itself, ln(1)-1 = 0-1 = 1/0 . Thus it is a reference to the "division by zero" meme. Found by 100jad.
Figuring out how I faked it: These questions are indirectly the "how" questions, where you have to guess what I did to make something in my fakes.
Where did I get the hole I used in this mini-fake? 4₧ [2 incorrect guesses] From the Easter Bunny's hole in the Easter 2007 event. Found by kasame10.
Where in-game do we see a monkey make this face? 3₧ [1 incorrect guess] Mizaru is a blind monkey involved in the Freeing King Awowogei subquest of Recipe for Disaster. Found by Capt Hunter.
When I made the Eucalyptus tree in Blender here, did I assign a separate material to each of the three shades of green in its leaves? (Bonus if you figure out how many materials the whole tree uses). Or did I do something else? (Bonus if you figure out what). 1₧ (+5₧) I only used one material for the leaves, but got it to have different colors via vertex painting. Found by ryuski (bonus not earned).
When I made this model, I did not stick with the default Lambert and CookTorr shaders for its material. Instead, I used different shader settings to achieve the unique appearance of the blade. You get 6₧ if you figure out either the diffuse or specular shader, and you get 4₧ bonus if you get both. 6₧ (+4₧) Both were Toon shaders. Found by Capt Hunter (bonus not earned).
In this fake, where did I get the map which I used for the shape of the United States? (One-shot question) 5₧ Google Maps. Found by ryuski.
In this video, what feature in After Effects did I use at the end to make the text follow the characters' heads so accurately? (It's a feature that exists in some other video editing programs too) 7₧
In this fake, there are two characters which do not exist in the bold chat font. You get 3₧ for figuring out one of the characters, and a bonus of 5₧ if you figure out both. However, you are ineligible for the bonus if you guess more than two characters - only two are fake! 3₧ (+5₧) The characters are pi (π) and the superscript minus (-), both at the favorite worlds part (bottom-right). Both found by Capt Hunter.
In this fake, what font did I use to create the pi (π) character? Note that it does not exist in the bold chat font. Bonus for specifying the font size used. 4₧ (+4₧) {Sealed by Figuring out how I faked it #7} I used Times New Roman, size 16px. Font, but not font size, found by Capt Hunter.
In this fake, there is one character which does not exist in the real regular chat font (not bold!). However, this character does exist in the copy of the chat font I made myself (downloadable here). Also, this character was once used in a different font in RuneScape. What is the character I am referring to, and (bonus) where did I originally get that character? 2₧ (+4₧) The infinity symbol (∞), in "You last logged in ∞ days ago from:". It was originally used in the Small Font, to number items with infinite stocks after the Personalized Shops update was made. Character (but not origin) found by Capt Hunter.

*Goals marked with an asterisk may only be earned once by the same person. If a goal is not marked with an asterisk, it can be earned any number of times by that person, but the action which earns the goal must be repeated (e.g. you can earn goal 29 twice by causing ten Bonus ₧ Distributions, or goal 26 twice by earning two sets of ten unique goals (even if some goals between the two "sets" are duplicates, so long as the goals you have earned can be split into two sets of at least ten unique goals each, you earn this goal a second time!)). Thus, any goal not marked with an asterisk can be earned (theoretically) an infinite number of times.
Note: "fake" means either a fake which has its own topic and questions, or any fake on this page (the background of a question can help you figure out what fake it is for, but the fake is also mentioned in the question).
Note that all goal rewards stack, so, for example, getting half the finds in a fake with 20 finds will earn you 25₧ in total!
Note that my contest also used to have "Milestones", but these were removed from being unfairly luck-based and causing people to get over 50₧ at once for something small. You may see more information about them and why they were removed here.
(If I forget to award you for reaching a Goal, please let me know!)
