4th of July Candy Swirled Strawberries

INGREDIENTS:


12 ounce bag bright white candy melt

6 ounces royal blue candy melt

2 pounds fresh strawberries



INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Wash and thoroughly pat dry strawberries.

  2. Place white candy melt in a microwaveable bowl. Microwave at for 1 minute at 50% power. Stir.

  3. Microwave at 20 second intervals at 50% power until melted, stirring after each interval. Stop when candy melt is smooth, creamy, and fluid. Do not overheat.

  4. Place the blue candy melt in a microwaveable bowl. Microwave at for 45 seconds at 50% power. Stir. Microwave at 20 seconds at 50% power. Stir until smooth, creamy, and fluid. Do not overheat.

  5. Place blue candy melt into a plastic bag. Close tight. Snip off an 1/8-inch opening in one corner. Draw an asterisk across the top of the white candy melt. There should be plenty of blue candy melt left in the bag.

  6. With the pointed end down, dip 3/4 of a strawberry into the candy melt, rotating it 180 degrees. Pull strawberries straight up to remove.

  7. Allow candy melt to drip.

  8. Place on a tray, cap side down to set.

  9. Before dipping the next strawberry, pipe additional swirls of blue candy melt into the bowl where the color has faded, if needed.

  10. Repeat steps 6 through 9 until all strawberries are coated.

Makes about 44 strawberries.


Recipe notes:

  • The cooking time and number of intervals is based on a 1000W microwave oven. Adjust your cooking time according to the wattage your microwave—stronger wattage require less time and weaker will need more time.

  • The candy melt can be also be melted over a double boiler as an alternative to using the microwave.

  • For best dipping results, do not use a bowl that is too large to hold the melted candy melt. Make sure the depth of the candy melt is high enough to almost submerge the strawberries.

  • The quantity of 44 for yield is an estimate and is based on small to medium size strawberries. If you have larger strawberries, your yield will be less.
