YA NO SEAMOS NIÑOS, ES TIEMPO QUE MADUREMOS

La Biblia nos manda a crecer; que nos convirtamos en individuos maduros, emocional, social y espiritualmente.

Hermanos, NO SEÁIS NIÑOS EN EL MODO DE PENSAR, sino sed niños en la malicia, PERO MADUROS EN EL MODO DE PENSAR. (1 Corintios 14:20)

Cuando yo era niño, hablaba como niño, pensaba como niño, juzgaba como niño; MÁS CUANDO YA FUI HOMBRE, DEJÉ LO QUE ERA DE NIÑO. (1 Corintios 13:11)

14 para que YA NO SEAMOS NIÑOS fluctuantes, llevados por doquiera de todo viento de doctrina, por estratagema de hombres que para engañar emplean con astucia las artimañas del error, 15 sino que siguiendo la verdad en amor, CREZCAMOS EN TODO EN AQUEL QUE ES LA CABEZA, ESTO ES, CRISTO, (Efesios 4: 14-15)

LA INFANTILIZACIÓN DE LA SOCIEDAD

En las últimas décadas se ha producido una Infantilización activa de la sociedad. El término infantilizar significa 1) hacer o mantener infantil; 2) tratar como si fuera infantil.

Si estás al tanto de lo que está sucediendo en nuestra cultura contemporánea hoy en día, entonces reconocerás que las cosas que están sucediendo hoy se pueden explicar mejor como satánicas. Los jóvenes se sienten hoy muy mal comprendidos y expresan lástima de su propia condición. Muchos de ellos creen estar en condiciones muy patéticas. Dicen que no tienen libertad, que no tienen esto ni aquello. Pero la realidad es que nunca ha habido una generación de jóvenes que haya tenido todo lo que tiene esta generación; y todavía lloran. Hace apenas una generación, los padres no permitían a sus hijos lloriquear y reclamar. Esta generación de jóvenes está empantanada en una falsa auto-compasión. Lo tienen todo y lo han probado todo. La adoración de las cosas mundanas se está practicado ampliamente en nuestros días. Es increíble que un grupo de jóvenes provenientes de “buenos hogares” se junte con una banda de extraviados mentales, para luego salir a destruir y matar. Parece increíble, pero está sucediendo y sus influencias son de naturaleza satánica. TRISTEMENTE, INCLUSO LAS PERSONAS MAYORES DE NUESTRA SOCIEDAD ESTÁN SIENDO AFECTADAS POR LOS EFECTOS DAÑINOS DE LA INFANTILIZACIÓN. Estas pueden sonar como palabras duras; sin embargo, si los adultos permanecen infantiles en sus pensamientos y acciones, Satanás gana.

JESÚS, NUESTRO EJEMPLO DE MADUREZ

Jesús mismo es nuestro ejemplo de madurez; Él fue niño pequeño, pero a medida que crecía, también maduraba. Las escrituras nos dan un relato de los llamados “años silenciosos” cuando Jesús crecía y se aproximaba a la edad adulta. Aunque crecer físicamente es un proceso natural, crecer emocional, espiritualmente y en sabiduría requiere gran esfuerzo e intencionalidad. Es a la vez triste y perturbador ver la auto infantilización o la infantilización de otros en nuestra sociedad actual.

YA NO SEAMOS NIÑOS

Se necesita mucho tiempo para crecer, no solo biológicamente, sino psicológicamente. Hay un dicho entre los psiquiatras de que se necesitan 50 años para superar los primeros 20.

He aquí la buena noticia: a diferencia de otras especies, no estamos limitados solo por nuestros instintos. Podemos aprender de Dios, de nuestros padres, de nuestras experiencias y nuestra cultura.

Aquí está la mala noticia: nadie madura sin esfuerzo. No sucede de forma natural. Requiere mucho trabajo.

Pero ¿qué significa ser “maduro?” Buena pregunta. Entonces, demos respuesta. Si trabaja para poseer todas las siguientes características, tendrá una vida más feliz, más profunda y más productiva.

CINCO CARACTERÍSTICAS DE LA MADUREZ

1. TOMANDO EL CONTROL

Por supuesto, no escoges en qué época naciste, dónde naciste o quiénes son tus padres. Pero con cada año de la infancia, adquieres más y más capacidad para trazar tu propio rumbo. Sí, la cultura y el destino juegan un papel, pero el cultivar tu capacidad y voluntad para tomar tus propias decisiones amplía tu capacidad para influir en cómo se desarrolla tu vida. La única forma de alcanzar la madurez es tomar control de tu vida. Nada te da tanto poder como ejercer ese control. Negarse a actuar, esperar a ser rescatado y verse como una víctima, son señales seguras de inmadurez.

2. ASUMIENDO RESPONSABILIDAD.

1. Reconoce que tú eres responsable por lo que haces. Si cometes un error, reconócelo. No pongas pretextos y no culpes a los demás. Esto es fácil de decir, pero todos sabemos que es mucho más difícil el hacerlo. Una persona madura lo hace. Una persona madura asume la responsabilidad.

2. Tener disponibilidad para asumir obligaciones y cumplirlas. Por ejemplo, me casé y asumí obligaciones con mi esposa e hijos. Tengo obligaciones éticas con mis compañeros de trabajo y en mi profesión, incluso en los días en que no me apetece. Una persona madura no ve las obligaciones como una carga, sino como algo que acepta de buena gana y se esfuerza para cumplirlas.

Proverbios 3:5-6, Confía en el Señor de todo corazón, y no en tu propia inteligencia. 6 Reconócelo en todos tus caminos, y él allanará tus sendas.

3. DOMINAR LAS EMOCIONES.

Nunca sugeriría que ignores tus emociones, pero debes aprender a contenerlas. Las personas inmaduras arremeten contra su jefe, su compañero de trabajo u otras personas si algo no sale bien, o discuten con su cónyuge cuando llegan a casa, o recurren al alcohol o las drogas debido a un día difícil.

Los buenos terapeutas a menudo les dicen a sus pacientes que la madurez se puede medir por la cantidad de ansiedad que pueden tolerar sin actuar de manera inapropiada contra ellos mismos o con los demás. Las personas maduras expresan sus emociones en el lugar correcto, en el momento correcto y de la forma correcta. Somos seres emocionales, pero nunca debemos soltar el volante; es decir, necesitamos aprender cómo y cuándo dominar nuestras emociones.

4. TENER PERSPECTIVA.

Un adolescente inmaduro considerará una espinilla en su cara como una erupción catastrófica como de un volcán, o considerará el rechazo de una novia o un novio como el fin del mundo. La madurez viene de poner en perspectiva las decepciones.

La razón por la que excusamos la reacción exagerada de un adolescente es porque entendemos que probablemente sea la primera vez que algo así le sucede. Pero las decepciones de la vida no se detienen cuando cumples 21 años. Ni mucho menos. Las decepciones de todo tipo, grandes y pequeñas, ocurren a lo largo de la vida. La persona madura aprende de ellas y se fortalece cada vez que se recupera. Este tipo de pensamiento maduro se expresa mejor en el famoso consejo que, según la literatura Judía, se le dio al rey Salomón: “Esto también pasará.” (Eclesiastés 3: 1-8)

La perspectiva también significa que cuando estamos molestos con alguien que amamos, tenemos que poner esa experiencia negativa en el contexto de toda la relación. Las personas inmaduras demonizan a un amigo o familiar con el que están molestos y olvidan o ignoran todo el amor y las buenas experiencias que alguna vez tuvieron. Las personas maduras ven el panorama completo, no solo lo bueno y no solo lo malo.

Proverbios 14: 12-13, 12 Hay camino que al hombre le parece derecho; Pero su fin es camino de muerte. 13 Aun en la risa tendrá dolor el corazón; Y el término de la alegría es congoja.

Proverbios 12:15, El camino del necio es recto en su propia opinión, pero el sabio escucha consejos.

2 Corintios 5:7, … por fe andamos, no por vista.

5. LOGRAR UNA COMPRENSIÓN PROFUNDA.

Esto lleva el concepto de empatía a un nivel superior. Más allá de sintonizarnos con los sentimientos de los demás, se trata de comprender las formas en que las ideas y los comportamientos de los demás tienen sentido para ellos. No tienes que estar de acuerdo con ciertas personas, pero si necesitas poder entrar en sus pensamientos. Debes comprender por qué creen lo que creen.

Una buena forma de hacerlo es repetir lo que una persona te ha dicho. “¿Es esto lo que querías decir?” Si dicen “sí, lo es,” entonces tú sabes, y ellos saben, que ha alcanzado una comprensión más profunda. Este tipo de comprensión, por cierto, es indispensable para lograr una verdadera intimidad. Esto explica por qué la persona madura es capaz de tener relaciones más íntimas de las que jamás tendrá la persona inmadura.

Col. 3:13, soportándoos unos a otros, y perdonándoos unos a otros si alguno tuviere queja contra otro. De la manera que Cristo os perdonó, así también hacedlo vosotros.

TOMANDO EL CONTROL. ASUMIENDO RESPONSABILIDAD. DOMINANDO TUS EMOCIONES. TENIENDO PERSPECTIVA. LOGRAR UNA COMPRENSIÓN PROFUNDA: estas son cinco características de la madurez. Juntas pueden llevarte a una vida más profunda y gozosa, y a una relación más cercana con DIOS.

SEÑALES DE QUE UNA PERSONA HA ALCANZADO LA MADUREZ:

Un espíritu de humildad.

La capacidad de mantener compromisos a largo plazo.

La capacidad de priorizar.

La capacidad de pensar antes de actuar.

La capacidad de evitar ser afectado por críticas o halagos.

A medida que perdemos la reverencia hacia Dios, y cuando rechazamos Su guía para nuestras vidas, nos volvemos más necios e inmaduros.

The Bible commands us to grow-up; that we become mature individuals, emotionally, socially and spiritually.

Brothers, DO NOT BE CHILDREN IN YOUR THINKING. Be infants in evil, BUT IN YOUR THINKING BE MATURE. (1 Corinthians 14:20)

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but WHEN I BECAME A MAN, I PUT AWAY CHILDISH THINGS. (1 Corinthians 13:11)

14 Then WE WILL NO LONGER BE INFANTS, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, WE WILL GROW TO BECOME IN EVERY RESPECT THE MATURE BODY OF HIM WHO IS THE HEAD, THAT IS, CHRIST. (Ephesians 4:14-15)

THE INFANTILIZATION OF SOCIETY

In recent decades, there has been an active Infantilization of society. The term infantilize means 1) to make or keep infantile; 2) to treat as if infantile.

If you are aware of what is happening in our contemporary culture today, then you will recognize the things that are taking place today can best be explained as satanical. Young people today feel very misunderstood and express pity for their own condition. Many of them believe to be in very pathetic conditions. They say they don't have freedom and that they lack everything. But the reality is that there has never been a generation of young people who has had everything that this generation has; and they still cry. Just one generation ago, parents did not allow their children to whine and complain. This generation of young people is mired in false self-pity. They have everything, and they have tried everything. The worship of worldly things has become widely practiced in our day. It is incredible that a group of young people from “good homes” get together with a band of mental deviants, and then go out to destroy and kill. It seems unbelievable, but it is happening, and its influences are satanic in nature. SADLY, EVEN OLDER PEOPLE IN OUR SOCIETY ARE BEING AFFECTED BY THE DESTRUCTIVE EFFECTS OF INFANTILIZATION. These may sound as harsh words; however, if adults remain infantile in their thinking and actions, Satan wins.

JESUS, OUR EXAMPLE OF MATURITY

Jesus himself is our example of maturity; He was a little child, but as he grew up, he also matured. The scriptures give us an account of those so-called “silent years” when Jesus was growing up and approaching adulthood. The disciple Luke says that JESUS GREW IN WISDOM, THAT IS, MENTAL GROWTH. IN STATURE, PHYSICALLY. IN FAVOR WITH GOD, SPIRITUALLY; and WITH MEN, SOCIALLY. In every area, the Lord Jesus Christ was becoming a Man with maturity. “And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.” (Luke 2:52)

While growing up physically is a natural process, to grow emotionally, spiritually, and in wisdom, requires great effort and intentionality. It is both sad and disturbing to see the self-infantilization or the infantilization by others of our society today.

WE SHOULD NO LONGER BE CHILDREN

It takes a long time to grow up—not only biologically, but psychologically. There is a saying among psychiatrists that it takes 50 years to overcome the first 20.

Here is the good news: unlike other species, we are not restrained by our instincts alone. We are able to learn from God, our parents, our experiences and our culture.

Here is the bad news: Nobody matures without effort. It does not happen naturally. It takes a lot of hard work.

But what does it mean to be "mature?" Good question. So, let's answer it. If you work to possess them all, you will have a happier, deeper, and more productive life.

FIVE CHARACTERISTICS OF MATURITY

1. TAKING CONTROL

Of course, you had no choice what era you were born in, or where you were born, or who your parents are. But with each year of childhood you attain more and more capacity to chart your own course. Yes, culture and fate play a role, but cultivating your ability and willingness to make your own decisions, expands your ability to influence how your life unfolds. The only way to achieve maturity is to take charge of your life. Nothing empowers you as much as exercising that control. Refusing to act, waiting to be rescued and seeing yourself as a victim are sure signs of immaturity.

2 Peter 1:6, [Add] to knowledge SELF-CONTROL, to SELF-CONTROL perseverance, to perseverance godliness,

2 Timothy 3:1-5, There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, WITHOUT SELF-CONTROL, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

2. TAKING RESPONSIBILITY.

1. Acknowledge that you are responsible for what you do. If you make a mistake, acknowledge it. Do not alibi and do not blame others. This is an easy thing to say, but we all know it's very hard to do. A mature person does it. A mature person takes responsibility.

2. Willingness to take on obligations and fulfill them. For example, I got married and took on obligations to my wife and children. I have ethical obligations to my coworkers and my profession, even on days that I might not feel like it. A mature person doesn't see obligations as burdens but as something he willingly accepts and sees through to fulfillment.

Proverbs 3:5-6, Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

3. CONTAINING EMOTIONS.

I would never suggest that you should ignore your emotions, but you must learn to contain them. Immature people lash out at their boss, their coworker, or others, if something doesn't go their way, or argue with their spouse when they come home, or turn to alcohol or drugs because of a rough day.

Good therapists often tell their patients that maturity can be measured by how much anxiety they can tolerate without acting out inappropriately against themselves or others. Mature people express their emotions in the right place, at the right time, in the right way. We are emotional beings, but we should never let go of the steering wheel; that is, we need to learn how and when to contain our emotions.

Proverbs 29:11, A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back.

Jeremiah 17:9, The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?

Proverbs 28:26, Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.

4. HAVING PERSPECTIVE.

An immature teenager will regard a pimple as a catastrophic eruption of Mt. St Helen, or will regard rejection by a girlfriend or boyfriend as the end of the world. Maturity comes from putting disappointments into perspective.

The reason we excuse a teenager's overreaction is because we understand it's probably the first time it's happened. But life's disappointments don't stop when you turn 21. Far from it. Disappointments of every variety, great and small, happen throughout life. The mature person learns from them and gets stronger each time he recovers. This kind of mature thinking is best expressed in the famous advice given to King Solomon: “This too shall pass.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8)

Perspective also means that when we are upset with someone dear to us, we have to put that negative experience in the context of the entire relationship. Immature people demonize a friend or a relative they are upset with and forget or ignore all the love and good experiences they once had. Mature people see the whole picture—not only the good, and not only the bad.

Proverbs 14:12-13, There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. Even in laughter the heart may ache, and the end of joy may be grief.

Proverbs 12:15, The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.

2 Corinthians 5:7, …we walk by faith, not by sight.

5. ACHIEVING DEEP UNDERSTANDING.

This takes the concept of empathy to a higher level. Beyond tuning in to another's feelings, this is about comprehending the ways in which another's ideas and behaviors make sense to them. You don't have to agree with that person, but you need to be able to get inside their thinking. You need to understand why they believe what they believe.

A good way to do this is to repeat what a person has said back to them. "Is this what you meant?" If they say "yes it is," then you know, and they know, that you've reached a deeper understanding. This kind of understanding, by the way, is indispensable to achieving true intimacy. It explains why the mature person is able to have more intimate relationships than the immature person ever will.

Col. 3:13, Bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.

TAKING CONTROL. TAKING RESPONSIBILITY. CONTAINING YOUR EMOTIONS. HAVING PERSPECTIVE. ACHIEVING DEEP UNDERSTANDING—these are five characteristics of maturity. Together they can lead you to a deeper and happier life and to a closer relationship with GOD.

SIGNS THAT A PERSON HAS REACHED MATURITY:

A spirit of humility.

The ability to keep long-term commitments.

The ability to prioritize.

The ability to think before acting.

The ability to avoid being affected by criticism or flattery.

As we lose reverence for God, and when we reject His guidance for our lives, we become more foolish and immature.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:10)

…speaking the truth in love, WE WILL GROW to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. (Ephesians 4:15)

La soberanía es un término que muchas personas no conocen. La soberanía suele aparecer en los titulares de hoy relacionados con cuestiones geopolíticas, como las naciones o las monedas soberanas. La palabra literalmente significa “REINAR SOBRE TODO,” y en el uso bíblico se refiere al control de Dios sobre todo el universo.

La soberanía de Dios es uno de los principios más importantes de la teología cristiana, así como uno de los más debatidos. Si Dios es realmente soberano o no, generalmente no es un tema de debate; todo el cristianismo convencional está de acuerdo en que Dios es preeminente en poder y autoridad. La soberanía de Dios es una consecuencia natural de Su omnisciencia, omnipotencia y omnipresencia. § Proverbios 9:10: “El temor de Jehová es el principio de la sabiduría.” Cuando la Biblia habla de temer a Dios, no se trata de una emoción paralizante, sino de una reverencia por la autoridad soberana de Dios, sobre todas las cosas. Según el Salmo 33:8 (Biblia NVI), temer al Señor significa “_______________ todos los __________________ del mundo.”

2. PORQUE DIOS ES SOBERANO, LE RESPONDEREMOS EN OBEDIENCIA

§ Cuando abrimos nuestras Biblias y nos damos cuenta de que esta es la Palabra de un Dios Soberano, ya no podemos leerla simplemente como estudiantes. Debemos leerla como siervos. No solo estamos tratando de aprender lo que dice la Biblia, sino que estamos tratando de descubrir lo que Dios, el Soberano del universo, nos dice que hagamos. Y debemos responder con "¡Sí Señor!"

§ ¿Qué tan seria es su obediencia? Intentemos este experimento. En 1 Tesalonicenses 5:12-18, tenemos diez mandamientos, cuales se enumeran a continuación. En el espacio a la derecha de cada elemento de la lista, ponga un número, del 1 al 10, indicando la calificación de su nivel de obediencia a Dios.

THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD

Sovereignty is a term many people don’t know. sovereignty is often occurs in today’s headlines relating to geopolitical issues, like sovereign national borders or sovereign currencies. The word literally means “TO REIGN OVER ALL,” and in biblical usage it refers to God’s control over all the universe.

God’s sovereignty is one of the most important principles in Christian theology, as well as one of its most hotly debated. Whether or not God is actually sovereign is usually not a topic of debate; all mainstream Christianity agrees that God is preeminent in power and authority. God’s sovereignty is a natural consequence of His omniscience, omnipotence, and omnipresence. What’s subject to disagreement is to what extent God applies His sovereignty—specifically, how much control He exerts over the wills of men. When we speak of the sovereignty of God, we mean He rules the universe, but then the debate begins over when and where His control is direct and when it is indirect.

God is described in the Bible as all-powerful and all-knowing (Psalm 147:5), outside of time (Exodus 3:14; Psalm 90:2), and responsible for the creation of everything (Genesis 1:1; John 1:1). These divine traits set the minimum boundary for God’s sovereign control in the universe, which is to say that nothing in the universe occurs without God’s permission. God has the power and knowledge to prevent anything He chooses to prevent, so anything that does happen must, at the very least, be “ALLOWED” by God.

At the same time, the Bible describes God as offering humanity choices (Deuteronomy 30:15–19), holding them personally responsible for their sins (Exodus 20:5), and being angry with some of their actions (Numbers 25:3). The fact that sin exists at all proves that not all things that occur are the direct actions of God, who is holy. The reality of HUMAN VOLITION and HUMAN ACCOUNTABILITY) sets the maximum boundary for God’s sovereign control over the universe, which is to say there is a point at which God chooses to allow things that He does not directly cause.

The fact that God is sovereign essentially means that He has the power, wisdom, and authority to do anything He chooses within His creation. Whether or not He actually exerts that level of control in any given circumstance is actually a completely different question. Often, the concept of divine sovereignty is oversimplified. We tend to assume that, if God is not directly, overtly, purposefully driving some event, then He is somehow not sovereign. The cartoon version of sovereignty depicts a God who must do anything that He can do, or else He is not truly sovereign.

Of course, such a cartoonish view of God’s sovereignty is logically false. If a man were to put an ant in a bowl, the “sovereignty” of the man over the ant is not in doubt. The ant may try to crawl out, and the man may not want this to happen. But the man is not forced to crush the ant, drown it, or pick it up. The man, for reasons of his own, may choose to let the ant crawl away, but the man is still in control. There is a difference between allowing the ant to leave the bowl and helplessly watching as it escapes. The caricature version of God’s sovereignty implies that, if the man is not actively holding the ant inside the bowl, then he must be unable to keep it in there at all.

The illustration of the man and the ant is at least a vague parallel to God’s sovereignty over mankind. God has the ability to do anything, to take action and intervene in any situation, but He often chooses to act indirectly or to allow certain things for reasons of His own. His will is furthered in any case. God’s “sovereignty” means that He is absolute in authority and unrestricted in His supremacy. Everything that happens is, at the very least, the result of God’s permissive will. This holds true even if certain specific things are not what He would prefer.

THE RIGHT OF GOD TO ALLOW MANKIND’S FREE CHOICES IS JUST AS NECESSARY FOR TRUE SOVEREIGNTY AS HIS ABILITY TO ENACT HIS WILL, WHEREVER AND HOWEVER HE CHOOSES.

Our God possesses not only infinite power but infinite authority, right, rule, and reign. Thinking of God as our “SOVEREIGN LORD” answers one of the greatest questions in the human heart—who is in charge? This means more to us when we look at all the situations that seem to be out of control. Try this exercise—list four areas (of your life or of society at large), in which it may feel as if no one were in charge.

§ The 19th century preacher Charles Haddon Spurgeon once said, “There is no attribute of God more comforting to His children than the doctrine of Divine Sovereignty.” Why is an understanding of divine sovereignty so comforting to God’s children? _____________________

§ It’s important to realize that God’s sovereignty isn’t limited to universal and cosmic matters; it’s a very personal and daily matter for God’s children. The same God who oversees the planets has authority over our problems; the same Throne that ordains the course of history also directs our daily steps. BECAUSE GOD IS SOVEREIGN, WE MUST (1) REVERENCE HIM, (2) OBEY HIM, (3) AND WORSHIP HIM.

§ Proverbs 9:10: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” When the Bible speaks of fearing God, it’s not talking about a crippling emotion but a reverence for God’s sovereign rule over all. § The adjective “God-fearing” is seldom used now, but look up these references and notice the wonderful results that come to our lives when we fear God by reverencing His sovereign rule over all that is seen and unseen. § When you have anxious feelings that your life or world is spinning out of control, maybe the real problem is our failing to fear God as we should. Is there a particular situation right now you would like to surrender to His rule and reign? Pause right now to say, “Lord, I confess Your sovereign control over ___________________________________________________. I’m going to make up my mind to fear You in this matter, respecting Your power, authority, and control.”

§ Now, look up Proverbs 19:23 (NKJV) and claim the two qualities promised there: “The fear of the Lord leads to _____________, and he who has it will abide in ______________.”

2. BECAUSE GOD IS SOVEREIGN, I WILL RESPOND TO HIM IN OBEDIENCE

§ As we open our Bibles and realize this is the Word of a Sovereign God, we are no longer able to read it merely as students. We must read it as servants. We are not just trying to learn what the Bible says, but we are trying to find out what God, the Sovereign of the universe, is telling us to do. And we must respond with, “Yes Lord!”

§ How serious is your obedience? Let’s try this experiment. In 1 Thessalonians 5:12-18, we have ten commands, which are listed below. In the space to the right of each item on the list, put a number, 1 to 10, on how you would judge your level of obedience.

1. Recognize those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and esteem them highly in love for their work’s sake. ___

2. Be at peace among yourselves. ___

3. Warn the unruly. ___

4. Comfort the fainthearted. ___

5. Uphold the weak. ___

6. Be patient with all. ___

7. See that no one renders evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all. ___

3. BECAUSE GOD IS SOVEREIGN, I WILL WORSHIP HIM

§ In Matthew 14:33, what did the disciples do after they witnessed our Lord’s sovereign control over the wind, waves, storm, and seas? _________________________________________

§ You may never be caught in a small boat in a storm on the Sea of Galilee, but what area of God’s controlling authority most makes you want to worship Him right now? ____________________

In terms of application, this is one of the most vital lessons. Remember the two levels where we most need God’s sovereignty:

(1) In world affairs, for He rules over the nations (Psalm 22:28)

(2) In the personal burdens that concern us (1 Peter 5:7).

Let’s take the opportunity to commit both areas to His Lordship. With the word PRAISE as a guide, use this crossword to guide you in your prayer time:

§ P – Praise God for His unlimited power, rule, and reign.

§ R – Rededicate yourself to fearing Him.

§ A – Ask Him to intervene in some troubled part of the world.

§ I – Intercede for the leaders of our nation.

§ S – Surrender to Him the personal burden that is weighing on your heart.

§ E – End your prayer with fresh thanksgiving for His sovereign nature.

God, the Sovereign Lord, has given all authority to Jesus Christ, His beloved Son. Jesus himself said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me” (Matthew 28:18).

And we read in Acts 17:31 because He [God] has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.”

EL EVANGELIO - EL MENSAJE MÁS IMPORTANTE

Ha habido mucha enseñanza por supuestos dirigentes cristianos cuales dicen que todo lo que es necesario para obtener la salvación de nuestras almas es seguir las enseñanzas de Jesús, aun negando la deidad de Cristo. Bueno, eso no es verdad. No puede haber ninguna salvación para la humanidad aparte de la sangre derramada por Cristo Jesús. Estimado lector, no es la vida de Cristo la que nos salva. Es la muerte de Cristo la que nos salva. Cuando hay predicadores que dan un mensaje como ese, no es extraño que haya tanta confusión en el mundo hoy en día en cuestión a la salvación. El mensaje de salvación es claro y directo, “pues Dios no es Dios de confusión, sino de paz. …” (1 Corintios 14:33)

La Palabra de Dios es como un libro en cuadros. Si usted simplemente mira los cuadros y lee Su Palabra, podrá entender que ni la vida ni las enseñanzas de Jesucristo le pueden salvar. En primer lugar, ni usted ni yo nos aproximamos al nivel de la vida ni de las enseñanzas de Jesucristo. Es una necedad hablar de ese tipo de enseñanza. Esto ha sido predicado excesivamente por el modernismo ya por muchos años y ha causado que nos encontremos en tanta confusión espiritual hoy en día. Ya es hora de que hablemos claro en cuanto a esto. Las enseñanzas de Cristo no pueden salvar a nadie, mi estimado lector. La muerte de Cristo en la cruz del calvario y Su resurrección es lo que puede salvar al pecador. Por lo tanto, el mensaje del evangelio es el mensaje más importante que podamos proclamar. El apóstol Pablo lo expresó de esta manera: "... y !!ay de mí si no anunciare el evangelio! La palabra evangelio literalmente significa "BUENAS NUEVAS" y aparece 93 veces en la Biblia, exclusivamente en el Nuevo Testamento. El evangelio es “BUENAS NUEVAS” porque es el mensaje del perdón de los pecados a través de la obra expiatoria de Jesucristo. La clave para entender el evangelio es saber por qué es BUENAS NUEVAS. Para hacer eso, debemos comenzar con las malas noticias. La Ley del Antiguo Testamento fue dada a Israel durante el tiempo de Moisés (Deuteronomio 5:1). Se puede pensar en la Ley como una vara de medir, y el pecado es cualquier cosa que no sea "perfecta" según norma establecida por la ley. El requisito justo de la Ley es tan estricto que ningún ser humano podría seguirlo perfectamente, ni en letra ni en espíritu. EL EVANGELIO

En este pasaje de las Escrituras (1 Corintios 15:1–4), vemos tres elementos esenciales del mensaje del evangelio.

1. CRISTO MURIÓ POR NUESTROS PECADOS

La frase "MURIÓ POR NUESTROS PECADOS" es muy importante. Como leemos en Romanos 3:23, “por cuanto todos pecaron, y están destituidos de la gloria de Dios.”Todos los que se acercan al trono de Dios para la salvación deben reconocer la realidad de su pecado. Un pecador debe reconocer la desesperanza de su culpa ante Dios para que se lleve a cabo el perdón, y debe comprender que “la paga del pecado es muerte” (Romanos 6:23). Sin esta verdad fundamental, ninguna presentación del evangelio está completa.

Según la Ley de Moisés, año tras año, se ofrecían sacrificios de animales como recordatorio del pecado y como símbolo del sacrificio venidero de Cristo (Hebreos 10:3-4). Cuando Cristo se ofreció a sí mismo en el Calvario, ese símbolo se convirtió en una realidad para todos los que quieren creer en El (Hebreos 10:11-14). Cuando Jesús “MURIÓ POR NUESTROS PECADOS,” terminó la obra de expiación, y esas son Buenas Nuevas.

2. FUE SEPULTADO

“FUE SEPULTADO.” Y quisiéramos decir aquí, que hay personas que preguntan ¿por qué es eso importante? Eso quiere decir querido lector, que El no desapareció, que no se esfumó o se fue para cualquier otro lugar. Eso quiere decir que Él tenía un cuerpo humano, y que Nicodemo, y José de Arimatea, y los otros que lo vieron a El crucificado sabían quién era; era Jesús. Ellos lo sepultaron, por eso debemos decir aquí que es de suma importancia. El murió, y su sepultura confirma su muerte. (Juan 9:38-42)

3. LA RESURRECCIÓN DE CRISTO

“FUE RESUCITADO EL TERCER DÍA.” La resurrección de Cristo es un elemento esencial del evangelio. La resurrección de Jesús al tercer día es la prueba del poder de Dios. “el cual fue entregado por nuestras transgresiones, y resucitado para nuestra justificación.” (Romanos 4:25). El hecho de que Jesús conquistó el pecado y la muerte (el castigo del pecado) eso es Buena Nuevas. El hecho de que Él se ofrezca a compartir esa victoria con nosotros es la mejor noticia de todas (Juan 14:19). Además, a diferencia de todas las demás religiones en el mundo, solo el cristianismo posee un Fundador que trasciende la muerte y que promete que sus seguidores harán lo mismo. Todas las demás religiones fueron fundadas por hombres y profetas cuyo fin fue la tumba.

JESÚS FUE EL SACRIFICIO PERFECTO POR EL PECADO

La persona y el sacrificio de Cristo son componentes indispensables del evangelio. Jesús es tanto Dios (Colosenses 2:9) como hombre (Juan 1:14). Jesús vivió una vida sin pecado que nosotros nunca podríamos vivir (1 Pedro 2:22) y, por esa razón, Él es el único que podría morir en lugar del pecador. “Al que no conoció pecado, por nosotros lo hizo pecado, para que nosotros fuésemos hechos justicia de Dios en él.” (2 Corintios 5:21)

LA SALVACIÓN ES GRATIS

Cristo ofrece su salvación como un regalo gratuito que solo puede recibirse por fe, aparte de cualquier obra o mérito de nuestra parte, “Porque por gracia sois salvos por medio de la fe; y esto no de vosotros, pues es don de Dios; 9 no por obras, para que nadie se gloríe.” (Efesios 2:8–9). Como nos dice el apóstol Pablo, “Porque no me avergüenzo del evangelio, porque es poder de Dios para salvación a todo aquel que cree...” (Romanos 1:16).

OBEDECER EL EVANGELIO ES PARTE DE LA RESPUESTA PARA LA SALVACIÓN

Si bien es beneficioso y hermoso vivir vidas que imitan la vida y las enseñanzas de Jesús, eso por sí solo no salvará a nadie. Debes obedecer el evangelio. El evangelio es Buenas Nuevas cuando entendemos que no obtendremos (ni podemos) ganarnos la salvación a través de buenas obras; la obra de redención y justificación está completa, habiendo sido consumada en la cruz (Juan 19:30). El evangelio es las Buena Nuevas porque “…ninguna condenación hay para los que están en Cristo Jesús, los que no andan conforme a la carne, sino conforme al Espíritu.” (Romanos 8:1).

Una vez más me gustaría enfatizar que el "EVANGELIO DE CRISTO” debe ser obedecido. Según la palabra de Dios, no “obedecer el Evangelio” es una señal de incredulidad. “... cuando se manifieste el Señor Jesús desde el cielo con los ángeles de su poder, 8 en llama de fuego, para dar retribución a los que no conocieron a Dios, ni obedecen al evangelio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo;” (2 Tesalonicenses 1:7-8).

¿QUIERES OBEDECER EL EVANGELIO?

Si está considerando obedecer el evangelio, piense seriamente en el compromiso.

Estos Son Los Elementos Esenciales Para Obedecer El Evangelio:

1. Creer en Cristo (Juan 8:24, Hechos 16:31)

2. Arrepentirse de sus pecados (Hechos 2:38)

3. Confesar a Cristo como el Hijo de Dios (Hechos 8:37, Romanos 10:9-10)

4. Ser bautizado para el perdón de sus pecados (Hechos 22:16)

5. Permanecer fiel hasta la muerte (Apocalipsis 2:10)

La Iglesia de Cristo en su área está lista para ayudarlo a obedecer el evangelio a cualquier hora del día o de la noche. No es necesario esperar hasta que ocurra una asamblea de la iglesia.

THE GOSPEL - THE MOST IMPORTANT MESSAGE

There has been much lecturing by supposed Christian leaders who say that all that is necessary to obtain the salvation of our souls is to follow the teachings of Jesus, even while denying the deity of Christ. Well that's not true. There can be no salvation for humanity apart from the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Dear reader, it is not the life of Christ that saves us. It is the death of Christ that saves us. When there are preachers who give such a message, it is no wonder that there is so much confusion in the world today when it comes to salvation. Yet, the message of salvation is clear and direct, “For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, …” (1 Corinthians 14:33)

The Word of God is like a book of pictures. If you simply look at the pictures and read His Word, you can understand that neither the life nor the teachings of Jesus Christ can save you. First of all, neither you nor I can measure up to the level of life or the teachings of Jesus Christ. This has been over-preached by modernism for many years now and has caused us to find ourselves in so much spiritual confusion today. It is time that we speak out on this. The teachings of Christ cannot save anyone, my dear reader. The death of Christ on the cross of Calvary and His resurrection is what can save the sinner. Therefore, the gospel message is the most important message that we can proclaim. The apostle Paul put it this way, “... yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!” (1 Corinthians 9:16)

The word gospel literally means “GOOD NEWS” and occurs 93 times in the Bible, exclusively in the New Testament. The gospel is “GOOD NEWS” because is the message of forgiveness for sin through the atoning work of Jesus Christ. The key to understanding the gospel is to know why it’s GOOD NEWS. To do that, we must start with the bad news. The Old Testament Law was given to Israel during the time of Moses (Deuteronomy 5:1). The Law can be thought of as a measuring stick, and sin is anything that falls short of “perfect” according to that standard. The righteous requirement of the Law is so stringent that no human being could possibly follow it perfectly, in letter or in spirit. Despite our “goodness” or “badness” relative to each other, we are all in the same spiritual boat—we all have sinned, and the punishment for sin is death, i.e. separation from God (Romans 3:23 and Romans 6:23). In order for us to enter heaven, God’s dwelling place, sin must be removed or paid for. The Law established the fact that cleansing from sin can only happen through the bloody sacrifice of an innocent life (Hebrews 9:22).

The gospel is, therefore, God’s rescue plan of redemption for those who will trust in His divine Son in order to be reconciled to a just and holy God. The essential content of this saving message is clearly laid out for us in the Bible.

THE GOSPEL

The apostle Paul, in his first letter to the Corinthians, lays out the substance of the gospel message, “Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the GOSPEL I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that CHRIST DIED FOR OUR SINS according to the Scriptures, that HE WAS BURIED, that HE WAS RAISED on the third day according to the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:1–4).

In this scripture (1 Corinthians 15:1–4), we see three essential elements of the gospel message.

1. CHRIST DIED FOR OURS SINS

The phrase “DIED FOR OUR SINS” is very important. As we read in Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” The reality of sin needs to be acknowledged by all who approach the throne of God for salvation. A sinner must acknowledge the hopelessness of his guilt before God in order for forgiveness to take place, and he must understand that the “wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). Without this foundational truth, no gospel presentation is complete.

Under the Law of Moses, animal sacrifices were offered year after year as a reminder of sin and a symbol of the coming sacrifice of Christ (Hebrews 10:3–4). When Christ offered Himself at Calvary, that symbol became a reality for all who would believe (Hebrews 10:11–14). When Jesus “DIED FOR OUR SINS,” The work of atonement was finished, and that’s good news.

2. HE WAS BURIED

“HE WAS BURIED.” And I would like to say here that there are people who ask why is that important? This means dear reader, that Jesus did not disappear, that He did not vanish or go somewhere else. This means that He had a human body, and that Nicodemus, and Joseph of Arimathea, and the others who saw Him crucified knew who He was; it was Jesus. They buried him, so we must say here that it is of utmost importance. He died, and his burial confirms his death. (John 19:38-42)

3. THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST

“HE WAS RAISED ON THE THIRD DAY.” The resurrection of Christ is an essential element of the gospel. The resurrection of Jesus on the third day is the proof of the power of God. “He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification” (Romans 4:25). The fact that Jesus conquered sin and death (sin’s penalty) is good news, indeed. The fact that He offers to share that victory with us is the greatest news of all (John 14:19). Further, unlike all other religions, Christianity alone possesses a Founder who transcends death and who promises that His followers will do the same. All other religions were founded by men and prophets whose end was the grave.

JESUS WAS THE PERFECT SACRIFICE FOR SIN

The person and the sacrifice of Christ are indispensable components of the gospel. Jesus is both God (Colossians 2:9) and man (John 1:14). Jesus lived the sinless life that we could never live (1 Peter 2:22), and, because of that, He is the only one who could die a substitutionary death for the sinner. “For He made Him [Jesus] who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (2 Corinthians 5:21)

SALVATION IS FREE

Christ offers His salvation as a free gift that can only be received by faith, apart from any works or merit on our part, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8–9). As the apostle Paul tells us, “… the gospel of Christ is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes…” (Romans 1:16).

OBEYING THE GOSPEL A PART OF THE RESPONSE FOR SALVATION

While it is both beneficial and beautiful to live lives imitating the life and teachings of Jesus, that by itself, will not save anyone. You must obey the gospel. The gospel is good news when we understand that we do not (and cannot) earn our salvation through good works; the work of redemption and justification is complete, having been finished on the cross (John 19:30). The gospel is the good news because “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” (Romans 8:1).

Once again, I’d like to emphasize that the “GOSPEL OF CHRIST” must be obeyed. According to God’s word, not “obeying the Gospel” is a sign of being an unbeliever. “…when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those WHO DO NOT OBEY THE GOSPEL of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Thessalonians 1:7-8).

1. Believe in Jesus Christ, believe in His gospel (Acts 16:31

2. Repent of your sins (Acts 2:38)

3. Confess Christ as the Son of God (Acts 8:37, Romans 10:9-10

4. Be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins (Acts 22:16)

5. Remain faithful until death (Revelation 2:10)
