Timothy Sawchuk

Timothy Sawchuk is a graduate student at Georgia Institute of Technology pursuing a Master’s Degree in mechanical engineering. He graduated summa cum laude from Florida Institute of Technology with a B.S. in mechanical engineering and a minor in sustainability. During his time as an undergraduate in Melbourne, FL, he worked in the campus makerspace helping fellow students learn about 3D printing, laser cutting, and CNC manufacturing. Before graduating, he worked on a mini rover concept project for senior design with NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, as well as a net-zero energy house concept using PVT (Photovoltaic Thermal) hybrid solar panels for the Florida Tech campus Alumni House.

Tim joined IDREEM Lab in August 2018 where he started working on the Maker Longitudinal project focusing on idea generation among students. His research looks into the creativity of student ideas when solving design problems, and how different factors, such as makerspace involvement, can influence that creativity. His Master’s degree focus is in Computer Aided Engineering and Design. After graduation, he wants to work in industry to gain practical experience before pursuing a PhD.
