Project: Aeronautical Telecommunications Network (ATN) End Systems Datalink

The ATN is a private secure version of the Internet. The project involved the implementation of the Trials End System (TES). TES is a prototype End System providing a secure communications service to Air Traffic Management applications. TES was funded by EUROCONTROL.

Project: Validation of the Standards and Recommended Practices for the ATN, as defined by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
The world’s first ATN was successfully deployed for international projects and flight trials. ICAO standards were accepted by the international community.
Technical support to the Programme Manager based in Brussels for the implementation of TES project. Managed outsourced international organisations, including a Thomson CSF led consortium, Logica and Airtel to support the validation activities.
Accepted TES software deliveries including regression, performance and functional tests. Introduced automated testing for software deliveries. Defined an acceptance test plan.
Performed configuration management of software releases. Managed the software change/version control. Distributed of TES package to member states.
Specified and developed a test plan for ATN trials. Specified and managed the development of trials software and tools.
Used of TES for interoperability trials, validation of ATN standards and pre-operational flight trials.
Participated in the deployment of the world’s first ATN.
Created and presented training courses for “ATN Upper Layer and Application standards” and “TES” to international clients.
Supported national bodies, e.g. NATS, DFS in the use of the communications software in national and international trials.
Participated in International Working Groups, representing EUROCONTROL.
Organised and directed an ATN User Group Meetings for international clients.
