2023 ICC GUIDELINES ON HOW TO JOIN AND CONDUCT ICC FOR LGU COORDINATORS
Thank you for your interest in joining this year’s International Coastal Cleanup. Aside from the worldwide celebration of the event on September 16, cleanup timeframe will be expanded from September 1 until December 31, 2023 to limit the volume and physical contact among volunteers.
The following are Guidelines to Safely Conduct Your Cleanup:
Before the Cleanup
Register online at the ICC Philippines website or send an email to iccphilippines@gmail.com.
Identify your cleanup sites. Be sure it's safe, accessible and social distancing is achievable.
Know the basic information about ICC and its mechanics by visiting our website (Google search International Coastal Cleanup Philippines)
Conduct a Coordinators Meeting to create a working group to help in organizing the cleanup. Make a plan with timeline and role assignments for the group. Plans will include provision of cleanup materials & tools, snacks, water, weighing scale, first-aid personnel and garbage/trash hauler
Contact local sponsors to support your cleanup (OPTIONAL).
Promote your ICC event through email, social media, website page, flyers or tarpaulins.
Invite organizations, companies, schools and clubs for an ICC Coordinators meeting for orientation and to discuss preparations and guidelines for ICC Day.
Finalize all preparation activities. Make sure all cleanup materials, tools & other provisions are ready.
Cleanup materials: sacks/net bags, additional data forms, masks and rubber gloves. (Take Note: During the meeting, ask volunteers if they can bring their own masks and gloves, sacks and data forms)
Cleanup tools (broom sticks, rakes, shovels, scooping nets, etc. )
Other provisions (water & snacks) and first-aid / health emergency personnel
Garbage/trash haulers
ICC program and guests for the kick-off ceremony
People assigned to document the event
Tarp, banners or signs (to guide volunteers to the site)
9. In case of a weather disturbance or security concerns, cancellation and rescheduling will be the discretion of the LGU. Inform Group Coordinators and volunteers on the planned date.
10. Remind Coordinators on the basic health and safety protocols during the cleanup.
On ICC Day
By 5 am, arrange the tent for registration, first-aid/drinking, and cleanup materials distribution. Set areas for weighing, washing and hauling. Mark each station to guide volunteers. Post banners or signs to direct participants to the cleanup site. Check PA system for the kick-off ceremony. Cleanup materials (sacks and gloves), trash data forms, ball pens, registration forms and a labeled box for returning accomplished forms must be ready at the Registration/ Receiving Area.
Remind the tasks/responsibilities of persons assigned during ICC Day event.
During the kick-off ceremony, remind volunteers on health and safety, what to do during emergencies and do’s and don’ts during the cleanup.
Oversee sorting and hauling of trash bags/sacks. If possible, debris items for recycling, such as, glass bottles and beverage plastic bottles are segregated. Make sure the waste hauler takes all the trash away.
The staff at the Receiving Area should check that returning data forms are properly filled-out and no information missing (such as, site name, name of school and coordinator, weight of trash, number of bags, etc.) — every detail of data is important. If possible, fill the name of the cleanup site ahead so that volunteers will not misrepresent your site. Secure in a labeled box all accomplished data forms. Ask Group Leaders to bundle group data forms using clips, rubber bands or ties.
After ICC Day
Summarize all data collected from the volunteers into the Coordinators Ocean Trash Data Form. Indicate the total number of volunteers, total number of sacks/bags, estimated weight in kilograms, estimated total distances in kilometers and totals of each trash item listed in the data form.
