This page is for foreign postdocs working at the Academia Sinica Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics (ASIAA) in Taipei, Taiwan. As a foreigner in Taiwan you will face some challenges, particularly if you don't speak Chinese. Fortunately for you, many of us here have already faced those same challenges and found solutions to common issues/problems. Here we provide a compilation of information that might be useful as you navigate your arrival and settling in Taipei. Check out the navigation tabs above to learn more about what to keep in mind before you get to Taiwan, during your first month, and after that while living in Taiwan.
Your fellow postdocs are going to be one of the best resources for information on how things work here and what to do if you get stuck. Don't hesitate to ask them for help. The current IAA postdoc representatives are Christian A. Flores Gonzalez, Sujin Eie, Shih-Ying Hsu, and Daniel Baker. They (and/or your advisory team) should be your first point of contact if you encounter any problems. You can find out more about the postdoctoral representatives and what they do here.
This website was originally set up back in 2016 by the postdoc representatives at the time: Nicole, Li-Ting, Ying-Tung, Kuo-Sung, Jesus, Peter, and Sundar. The current version has been revised and edited to bring the information up to current standards.
If you find outdated information on this site, or if you feel like there are other useful information that should be included, please mail us at postdoc_representatives(at)asiaa.sinica.edu.tw.
