Wrap Up

When Ayane is in Phoenix, I'm really excited to share more of the desert culture. Because our weather and landscape is so different, I think she will be really surprised. Japan, or at least Himeji, was surrounded and a part of the mountains. In Phoenix, we have mountains, but not ones that are filled with green plants and near us. I think the weather is going to shock her a lot too. I have warned her about how hot Phoenix is, but it will still be a bit shocking to actually feel it. I think overall Ayane is going to have a wonderful time. I want to take her shopping, to Sedona, and to try all different foods. She is a little nervous about fast English speaking, but I think she will begin to feel more comfortable once she realizes she will be with the other Japanese kids most of the time.

My time abroad has been one of the most amazing things that has ever happened in my life. I far exceeded all of my expectations, fears, and hesitations. I want to go back to Japan so badly because I felt so happy in Japan. It just was absolutely incredible but there is no way for me to explain to anyone what the trip meant to me. Before going to Japan, I always felt like there was almost a fear or some sort of resentment. I think sometimes our perceptions are so skewed but we do not know what else to believe. After spending this time in Japan, I can tell that they are the nicest people I have ever met. Everyone was so happy to see you there and so happy that I was trying to learn their language and culture. When I arrived back in America, I noticed this difference. American's are so impatient and don't bother to think about someone else when they say or do things. It was such a huge punch in the face to realize this but if you ever consider going to Japan, don't listen to the stereotypes and just go.
