eVote: Al-Assaf Family Sponsorship

Hi Everyone,

We heard back from our MP's office and it is not good news. CIC insisted that we should have known that the audited statement need to be done externally and refused to reopen the file stating that the only way at this point is to resubmit the application from the beginning. During our waiting period we explored the option of going with an approved sponsor like MCC or Catholic social services. MCC was not interested in this arrangement and I haven’t heard from Catholic Social Services. Unless someone knows otherwise, I consider this option closed also. Therefore, the only option available to us is to resubmit as community sponsorship or a group of five if we can find 5 people to put out the money in a trust fund to resubmit.

I was told that the new application is a little simpler. Regardless we will need to go through the whole thing again or abandon this venture. The family is in another camp and is not looking like the are going back to Syria anytime soon. Because we are going to Lebanon in about a month's time, I would like to get the application completed quickly IF we are going to do it so we can get whatever required signatures while we are there and can visit them in the Bekaa Valley.

Another thing to keep in mind is that we will have to arrange and pay for an independent audit, which could run as high as $5,000.
